Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC

Support families of children with hearing loss in maximizing their child's linguistic and educational progress. This position will be primary daylight hours with flexibility for travel to community event at various times and days.


  • Assist families in developing advocacy skills and comfort in being a fully knowledgeable member of the IFSP/IEP team

  • Assist families in developing an understanding of the appropriate laws regarding EI and education, and support in creating an appropriate IFSP or IEP for their child

  • Collaborate on workshops and educational programs for families and educators

  • Conduct didactic sessions for various professional and community organizations, as requested

  • Cultivate relationships with personnel at Schools for the Deaf, Listening and Spoken Language Schools, Intermediate Units, School Districts and Early Intervention Providers

  • Develop and refine Educational Liaison procedures and protocols.

  • Maintain inventory of literature, reference material and reports

  • Meet with and counsel families of children newly diagnosed with hearing loss about educational options in their area

  • Offer training and support to EI Programs and school districts unable to provide this through their own staff, including classroom observation, as needed

  • Participate in relevant organizations related to educating children with hearing loss

  • Participate in the development of short and long-term goals of the Hearing Center, ENT, and Audiology Departments related to serving children with hearing loss and their families

  • Provide an important bridge for children with hearing loss between the clinical and service providers, and Early Intervention / school settings

  • Provide families with printed materials and direct them to websites so that they can expand their knowledge about hearing loss and raising a child with hearing loss

  • Provide information to families who are new to the area about educational options for their child with hearing loss

  • Provide teachers and administrators in Early Intervention (EI) Programs and schools serving children with hearing loss a credible, professional resource in maximizing the student's auditory skill development and educational progress

  • Serve as Educational Expert to hearing health care providers

  • Serve as a conduit of specific information between hearing health care providers and the IFSP or IEP team

  • Support families in making referrals to outside agencies, as needed

  • Support families of children with hearing loss in maximizing their child's linguistic and educational progress.

  • Update professional knowledge and skills by completing a minimum of ten hours of continuing education (contingent upon funding) during each fiscal and/or rating year


  • Bachelors Degree in Deaf Education, Masters Degree preferred

  • Three (3) years experience in Deaf Education Fluent in American Sign Language, preferred Listening and Spoken Language Certification, preferred

  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills Excellent written and oral communications skills, including Power Point and public speaking Knowledge of educational landscape for children with hearing loss in Western Pennsylvania

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Act 33 Child Clearance with Renewal

  • Act 34 Criminal Clearance with Renewal

  • Act 73 FBI Clearance

Working closely with the Senior Director of Professional Learning, sales team, and other Curriculum Associates professionals, the Educational Consultant (Math) will be responsible for facilitating high-quality professional development, training, and support, data analysis, and communicating consultatively with school teachers and leaders. Hours: Part-time consultants are scheduled on an as-needed basis, paid hourly. Schedule is highly dependent on customer demand, with peak season occurring end of July through October. Must be available for internal training conferences (the last week in April or the first week in June, the fourth week in May, and the third week of July). Location: Pittsburgh, PA. Must have own transportation as this role requires considerable travel beyond the posted location. The impact you'll have: * Become an expert on the company's online diagnostic and instruction program and Common Core product, focusing on Mathematics * Help coordinate on-site product training and professional development courses to teachers and school administrators. Adjust professional development workshops within specified parameters to fit the needs of the participants. * Deliver professional development courses to teachers, coaches and leaders on how to effectively implement Ready and i-Ready to impact classroom learning * Provide on-site targeted support to teachers, coaches and leaders. This may range from providing lesson planning and pacing support, to helping educators analyze data and apply it to instruction, to working with leaders to identify evidence of implementation successes and challenges * Engage in internal cycle of professional improvement and development (including being observed, receiving feedback, and being coached) * Track and submit detailed training notes * Complete all assignments in a timely manner * Present a professional image at all times to customers and prospects What we're looking for: Successful candidates will thrive in a fast-paced environment and demonstrate a record of achievement: * Bachelor's degree and at least 5+ years of experience in teaching mathematics, coaching teachers of mathematics, and providing mathematics professional development. Preference will be given to candidates with experience teaching mathematics at the secondary (6-12) level and/or with a Bachelor's or Master's degree in mathematics or mathematics education. * Strong working knowledge of the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics for Grades K-8 (or comparable state standards), including both the content standards and the practice standards. Understanding of the ELA Standards for K-8 also preferred. * Fluency with using digital tools including online assessments, and a high level of comfort discussing and applying data with teachers and leaders. * Understand principles of adult learning and how to apply them to professional development * Excellent facilitation skills, ensuring participants meet learning objectives * Excellent computer and internet skills including knowledge of Office programs (Outlook, Word, PPT, etc.); knowledge of online meeting programs (e.g. GoToMeeting/WebEx) a plus * Willingness to travel * Superior time management skills: ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize appropriately * Proven organizational skills and high attention to detail * Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills * Ability to work independently and as a team player * Must have own transportation and laptop that meets the i-Ready system requirements and can open and edit PowerPoint, Excel, and Word files.
