Occupational Summary

The Duke Office of Clinical Research (DOCR) within the School of Medicine is seeking a Coordinator of Education and Training to play a key role in curriculum planning and instructional design for clinical research professionals, apprentices, interns, and students. This individual will collaborate with leaders to develop and coordinate apprenticeship, onboarding, and training programs. This will include the development and delivery of effective in-person and eLearning education for clinical research professionals as well as high school and college students to develop pathways from secondary education and early-college programs into the clinical research workforce.

This position requires a proactive approach to program development and evaluation, proficiency in multimedia course creation, and the ability to leverage various authoring tools for content development. Additionally, the Coordinator of Education and Training will support essential business processes to ensure training compliance and organizational adherence to policies.

Work Performed

Planning and Coordination for Educational Activities

  • 50%

Contribute to the development and delivery of education and training programs and communication tools for the clinical research community.

Manage and coordinate educational activities for clinical research staff, students, and apprentices. Including, planning for apprenticeship programs, overseeing coursework, and facilitating hands-on experiences.

Implement in-person and e-learning programs, coordinating and leading relevant classes, meetings, and discussions.

Communicate with learner audiences using innovative technologies (e.g. social media, podcasting, etc.)

Collaborate with leaders to develop curriculums, strategies, and plans for new educational initiatives including internships, K-12, and college programming.

Develop processes and systems to support high school learner pathways into internships, apprenticeships, and careers.

Maintain process documentation and implement methods to evaluate the effectiveness of training and development programs.

Facilitate delivery of training content from various resources; research, evaluate, and select outside consultants and trainers to meet educational needs as appropriate.

Support existing educational initiatives such as onboarding tools for clinical research professionals, Research Professionals Network, new hire mentoring programs, and the Engagement, Recruitment, and Retention Certificate Program.

Provide support for business processes related to training compliance and organizational policies.

Instructional Design

  • 35%

Collaborate with leaders to determine education priorities based on assessed needs, business impact, and available resources.

Apply adult learning methodologies to create basic and advanced-level traditional and e-learning courses using a variety of multimedia and available authoring tools.

Provide technical expertise in designing new e-learning courses and maintaining or revising existing courses.

Develop engaging and informative content using authoring tools such as Articulate 360, Camtasia, Vyond, and Adobe Design.

Develop instructional guides to accompany and enhance training programs.

Create micro-learning videos, and other digital content, to effectively explain clinical research processes.

Evaluate and iterate educational content as needed.

Instructional Resource Management

  • 15%

Administer and maintain e-learning courses and curriculums through various learning management systems and web collaboration tools (e.g. SABA LMS, Canvas LMS, Microsoft Teams, DOCR Website etc.) and generate relevant reports and metrics.

Conduct quality control testing and review of published materials, troubleshooting technical and compatibility issues.

Stay informed about instructional technology trends and make recommendations as appropriate.

Research and collect data to support business decisions, presenting information to leadership as requested.

May supervise, make work assignments, and review the work of collaborators.

Required Qualifications at this Level:

Education/Training:

Work requires completion of a Bachelor's degree.

Experience:

Work requires a minimum of five years of experience in the design, delivery and evaluation of business-related education, training and/or development programs, preferably in a research environment.  Or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.

Required Skills:

Strong written and oral communication, organizational, coordination, prioritization, problem-solving, and project management skills.

Experience with web-based collaboration environments and presentation software.

Familiarity with course and learning management systems like Canvas and SABA.

Capability to own and proactively manage tasks, taking the lead on projects and initiatives as necessary.

Demonstrated ability to initiate and complete instructional design projects using the latest technology.

Ability to establish positive working relationships with a wide range of people within the clinical research community.

Preferred Skills:

Expertise in e-learning authoring tools and Learning Management Systems such as SABA, Canvas, Articulate 360 (Rise and Storyline), Camtasia, Vyond.

Experience with animated and live video development and editing, sound/narration editing, and voice-over work.

Familiarity with website authoring tools.

Graphic design skills for creating visually appealing graphics for e-learning courses, flyers, and presentations.

Ability to direct and organize educational projects toward publication.
