JOB SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the District Health Nurse, administers medical care and medication to sick or injured students, responds to emergency situations, assists in health screenings, and performs other related duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

80% Direct Student Support
Administers first aid to sick or injured students according to School District and State guidelines. Determines whether students should remain in the health office.
Assists with implementing students' individual health plans and provides specialized medical care consistent with the health plan.
Administers medications authorized by a physician and in compliance with State guidelines; observes students for medication reactions.
May assist with health and wellness screenings as necessary.
Collaborates and communicates with teachers to support individual health plans.
Supervises students within the health office.
15% Health Office Support
Maintains current health and accident information on students and completes and updates related reports, charts, and logs within the electronic database.
Performs health office duties such as data-entry, communicating with parents/guardians, and inventorying necessary supplies.
Reports health status of students to District Health Nurse and other staff on a need-to-know basis.
Assist in collecting data related to students' health plans.
5% Professional Development and Support
Attends meetings and training as assigned which may include CPR/First Aid and related trainings.
May provide support for other ESP positions.
Perform other duties as assigned or requested.
WORK REQUIREMENTS AND CHARACTERISTICS:
Education/Certification/Licensure Requirements:
High School diploma or equivalent.
Complete Personal Care Assistance Training prior to working with students. Additional training with District Nurse may be required prior to the start of position.
Ability to pass Paraeducator Assessment (may be substituted with completion of two years of college/AA degree or three years of experience as ESP with completion of required professional development).

Organizational and time management skills including the ability to meet deadlines.
Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job.
Machines, Tools, Equipment, Electronic Devices and Software Required:
Operates office equipment including computer, phone system, laminator, copier, scanner and calculator.
Operates health care tools/equipment such as thermometer, catheter, syringe, blood sugar analysis, etc.
Operates assistive technology and other equipment.
Supervision of Other Employees:
This position does not provide supervision or work direction to any other District employees.
The position may assist in training others.
Ability and willingness to cross train and cover other ESP positions.
Physical Job Requirements:
Position involves extended periods of time on feet.
Position involves occasional lifting up to 40 pounds.
Position involves listening, speaking clearly and visual acuity.

Working Conditions:
Normal school conditions.
Exposure to body fluids and airborne pathogens under normal health office conditions.
Exposure to noise from students including potential behavioral disturbances.
