Dixon Montessori Charter School is a WASC accredited public school enrolling students in grades TK-8th grade. We are a site based school program serving over 400 students under the authorization of Dixon Unified School District.

At DMCS, we blend core components of the Montessori philosophy (Kindergarten thru 6th) with a Project-Based Learning Style (7th thru 8th grades) to create a dynamic, "hands-on" learning approach. All Montessori and Project-Based curriculum is aligned to the Common Core State Standards, and gives the students a well-rounded

exposure to the many ways of learning.

Job Description 2022-2023

Title: Education Specialist/Special Education Teacher

Primary Function: Under the general supervision of the Executive Director and the Student Services Administrator, provide case management and instruction to students with special needs and identified learning disabilities in a special education resource room.

Relationship to Student Achievement: This position supports student achievement by contributing to the differentiated needs for the Special Education Students in alignment with IEP goals and compliance.

Supervision Exercised and Received

Exercised: Paraprofessionals in Resource Room

Received: Executive Director, Student Services Administrator, Site Administrators

Duties and Responsibilities: (This position description is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties, knowledge, or abilities associated with this position, but is intended to accurately reflect the primary job elements.)

  • Conduct IEP meetings when the Education Specialist 2 is unavailable.

  • Administer and score individual and group tests.

  • Coordinate, train and monitor paraprofessionals tending to IEP students in the Resource Room

  • Collaborate and train teachers in the support of students with IEP's

  • Communicate with education specialist 2, speech teacher, psychologist, and other service providers when needed

  • Communicate with parents regarding individual student progress and conduct.

  • Maintain progress records and record progress toward IEP goals.

  • Provide instruction to students with special needs and identified learning disabilities in a special education program.

  • Other duties as assigned by the Director or his/her designee to support the Special Education Department.

Required Experience and Education:

  • Valid California Teaching Credential

  • Ability to teach students of grades TK-8.

  • Ability to organize and present ideas effectively in oral and written form.

  • Ability to make skillful decisions.

  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

  • BA/BS Degree

  • Previous experience as a SPED Resource Teacher

Physical Demands:

  • Work is performed while in a stationary position for extended periods of time.

  • May require traveling in a vehicle to job assignments.

  • Work is performed while moving supplies weighing up to 20 pounds across the classroom.

  • Requires the ability to communicate effectively with staff, students, parents, and community members.

  • Requires the ability to detect information displayed on a computer screen and read documents.

  • Requires the ability to operate a computer keyboard or standard office equipment.
