Education Specialist I/II

Position Description:

The St. Augustine Alligator Farm Zoological Park is seeking an Education Specialist to join our education team to create and provide interactive and high-quality conservation learning programs. This role will collaborate on the design of curriculum, events, and programs while supporting the Education Department's mission and goals.

Candidate(s) should be able to:

• Use suitable interpretive techniques for a wide range of events and programs.

• Facilitate learning experiences for various ages.

• Have a basic understanding of animal husbandry practices to assist in the care of Education's ambassador animal collection (amphibians, birds, reptiles, small mammals).

• Complete administrative duties as needed including but not limited to maintenance and inventory of biofacts, program materials, monthly reports, etc.

• Work in an outdoor environment and have an appreciation for outdoor informal learning activities such as kayaking, hiking, zip lining.

• Assist in the development and writing of curriculum for K - 12 programs.

• Multi-task and work independently on a variety of projects.

An understanding of the zoological field and the demands of our work environment. Emphatic towards others and confident in one's abilities.

This position will focus on ambassador animal well-being, animal training, and guest encounters.

Schedule:

Schedule will include weekends (evenings, holidays, and special events as required by the needs of the department).

Experience Required

A strong background in biology, zoology, or life science is required. Previous informal teaching experience (such as zoo, museum, nature center, etc.) is preferred. Must be comfortable handling animals (primarily reptiles). Must possess or be eligible for a valid FL driver's license.

Salary

$16+ hr, depending on experience
