Treasure Coast Newspapers/, part of the USA Today Network, is seeking a reporter to cover education in its own three-county area as well as across Florida. The successful candidate will do more than attend school board meetings in Indian River, St.

Lucie and Martin counties and write stories about process. He/she will dig into issues, not settling for simplistic answers from educational bureaucrats. This reporter will find insightful enterprise and investigations.

He/she will tell those stories in engaging and innovative ways and on a variety of digital and print platforms. He/she also will become conversant with statewide education issues particularly school security and its funding, a major Florida concern since the Parkland shooting and provide coverage to Gannett's six Florida properties, from the East and West coasts to Tallahassee and the Panhandle.

This multimedia journalist should be experienced in using social media both in reporting and in promoting his/her stories. He/she should be adept at source development; have experience using public records, databases and other digital-focused tools; bring a rock-solid knowledge of AP style; and demonstrate a proven ability to meet daily and weekend deadlines.

This job is based in Stuart, Florida. Requirements include a bachelor's degree in journalism or equivalent education. Previous education coverage and at least three years of experience at a daily newspaper or equivalent media are preferred.

This role requires a valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and the minimum liability insurance required by state law.

GFA is a full-service engineering consulting firm, specializing in geotechnical engineering, environmental consulting, material testing, and building inspections. Our clients include contractors, developers, owners, engineers, architects, state and local governments, school boards, departments of transportation, universities, banks, and realtors. This position involves performing inspections at residential, commercial and multi-family dwellings with enforcement of appropriate building codes which regulate building construction, alterations and repairs. Essential responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: * Perform Inspections * Ensure protocols for Private Provider Services are followed * Perform Municipal Support Inspections * Maintain accurate project reports * Attend client and/or Building Department meetings as necessary Structural inspections include: * Inspecting reinforcing steel configuration, size, & placement. * Inspecting concrete formwork dimensions and clearance. * Inspecting post-tensioned cable placement. * Inspecting structural steel member sizes and configuration. Inspecting bolted and welded connections. * Inspecting precast member configuration and connections. * Inspecting shoring and reshoring. * Inspecting wood and metal roof truss systems. Education/Experience: * Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year College or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Language Ability: * Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, plans, specifications, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Certificates and Licenses: * An inspector must have either a building inspectors license in the state of Florida, a general contractors license in the state of Florida, or an engineering degree. Additional Qualifications: * Multi-trade certifications are a plus The hours for this position will vary. Most construction operations are performed on weekdays between 6am and 5pm however occasional night and weekend work should be anticipated.
