Treasure Coast Newspapers/TCPalm.com, part of the USA Today Network, is seeking a reporter to cover education in its own three-county area as well as across Florida. The successful candidate will do more than attend school board meetings in Indian River, St.
Lucie and Martin counties and write stories about process. He/she will dig into issues, not settling for simplistic answers from educational bureaucrats. This reporter will find insightful enterprise and investigations.
He/she will tell those stories in engaging and innovative ways and on a variety of digital and print platforms. He/she also will become conversant with statewide education issues particularly school security and its funding, a major Florida concern since the Parkland shooting and provide coverage to Gannett's six Florida properties, from the East and West coasts to Tallahassee and the Panhandle.
This multimedia journalist should be experienced in using social media both in reporting and in promoting his/her stories. He/she should be adept at source development; have experience using public records, databases and other digital-focused tools; bring a rock-solid knowledge of AP style; and demonstrate a proven ability to meet daily and weekend deadlines.
This job is based in Stuart, Florida. Requirements include a bachelor's degree in journalism or equivalent education. Previous education coverage and at least three years of experience at a daily newspaper or equivalent media are preferred.
This role requires a valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and the minimum liability insurance required by state law.
