Position Summary & Responsibilities:
This position is critical to uphold the Kansas State Department of Education's (KSDE) responsibility to provide leadership and ensure compliance with state and federal laws and regulations for the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), as well as the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), Kansas State Board of Education outcomes and requirements of Kansas accreditation. The employee serves as the state's Part B Section 619 Coordinator, providing technical assistance to ensure proper implementation and compliance with state and federal regulations related to early childhood special education. The employee provides consultation and technical assistance for local education agency personnel. The employee interacts with parents, general education personnel, partners from other state agencies, agency contractors, faculty of institutions of higher education, professional organizations, and state advisory groups for the purpose of providing information and improving services in the area of early childhood special education.

Required Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college. Experience may be substituted for education as deemed relevant by the agency.
Preferred Skills and/or Qualifications:
Thorough, technical knowledge of current principles, practices, theories and trends in the area of early childhood special education;
Ability to collaborate effectively with a variety of partners and with a team;
Ability to work and meet deadlines with minimal supervision;
Ability to communicate effectively; and
Data analysis skills.
Preferred Experience:
One year of experience as a teacher in early childhood special education or a related area; and
Experience as special education, technical assistance provider, administrator, supervisor or lead teacher program coordinator.
