VIEW JOBS 4/19/2019 12:00:00 AM 2019-07-18T00:00 Extension Specialist - Natural Resources and Environmental Position located Weston, WV WVU Extension Jackson's Mill WVU Extension Service (WVUES) seeks a dynamic and innovative professional to provide statewide support and coordination for natural resources and environmental education programs. This is a full-time faculty appointment based at Jackson's Mill State 4-H Camp. The specialist will report to the WVU Extension Service State 4-H Youth Development Program Director. Responsibilities: * Provide direction and vision to Extension natural resources and environmental education programs, including 4-H project workshops, skill-a-thons, camps, afterschool programs, and school enrichment programs. * Communicate with participants, collaborators, and donors. * Provide leadership and collaborate with colleagues for development or acquisition of effective natural resource and environmental educational programs and curriculums, provide training, resources and contacts that support the growth of team members and partners to address issues, develop evaluation strategies and report results. * Develop and maintain curricula and training materials to address science content areas; ensuring that curricula materials match WV Department of Education standards. * Conduct in-service education for field faculty, staff, volunteers, afterschool providers and school teachers. * Support county-based faculty in natural resources and environmental science programming. * Recruiting and training volunteers to assist with programs and activities. * Assist in the planning, design, and development of natural resource and environmental education facilities and programs at Jackson's Mill. * Seek grants and private gifts (in cooperation with the WVU Foundation) to support assigned programs. * Serve as principal investigator for program area grants. * Other duties as assigned to support the overall goals of WVU Extension Service 4-H Youth Development. * Serve and provide leadership on local, regional, state, college and university committees and non-university committees on state and national levels. * Conduct needs assessments to determine best practices and appropriate strategies to improve Extension STEM education efforts and to increase the number of WV youth going into STEM college majors and professional fields. * Serve as a team member of the 4-H Youth Development Unit Leadership Team. * Participate in relevant STEM state and national professional development, workgroups and associations. * Be responsible for managing allocated budgets using Extension best financial practices. * Serve as a mentor for new faculty. * Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications: Doctorate degree preferred and Master's Degree required with a degree in an appropriate discipline closely related to the natural resource management / education, environmental studies / sciences, STEM fields, and/or education. Candidates should demonstrate expertise in Extension program development and evaluation, have an appreciation and understanding of Extension and 4-H programs, and have an understanding of the diverse programming offered by WVU Extension Service. Candidates should have excellent organizational skills and be able to manage multiple programs. Experience: * Formal training in education or at least three (3) years of experience in education or training. * Demonstrated expertise in program development and evaluation. * Demonstrated understanding of Extension and 4-H programs. * Demonstrated interpersonal and public relations skills, as well as written and oral communications skills. * Experience working with youth and adults. Requirements: * Driver's license and personal transportation Position Assignment: * This is a 12-month, full-time, tenure-track position. * The successful candidate will be evaluated for providing a significant contribution in teaching and service with a reasonable contribution in research with WVU Extension Service.
