Oak Plains Academy is seeking a dynamic and talented Education Assistant.
Oak Plains Academy is a comprehensive and highly structured 90-bed residential treatment center located on 25 acres of rolling hills in Ashland City, Tennessee. Oak Plains provides psychiatric and neurological treatment services for males and females, ages 5-17, who have significant history of emotional or behavioral issues. The clinical programs at Oak Plains Academy have been designed to address the needs of children and adolescents with a primary psychiatric/ neurological diagnosis. Residents receive an individualized treatment plan, geared to meet their personal needs. A professional team of psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, therapists, nurses, and teachers work closely with each resident to assist them to achieve there therapeutic and education goals.

The Education Assistant assists in the education of students and administration of policies and procedures relating to all phases of education in accordance with current state and federal special education standards. In addition, the education Assistant position assists the classroom teacher in all elements of classroom management.
To utilize teaching aids and materials.
Provide continuous individualized student care, observation, interaction, documentation and role modeling to the assigned students.
Consistently direct student needs (as related to on the student's IEP).
Manage behaviors by utilizing various therapeutic interventions and provide appropriate documentation.
Attend and participate in all mandatory school in-services and staff developmental activities as scheduled.
Maintain confidentiality of school employees and student information at all times.
Actively participate in instruction in the classroom to challenge students to complete their assignments and reach their potential.
Prepare weekly progress notes, Master Treatment Plans, Updates, and IEP's.
To abide by and promote the philosophy, policies and procedures, goals and objectives, and the standards of care as set forth by Oak Plains Academy.
Assist in reviewing, revising, writing and implementing facility policies and procedures.
Other duties as pertains to continuous quality improvement of educational services.
Timely documentation and filing of student's educational records.
Will be required to participate in mandatory overtime as determined by the safety and security needs of the facility.
Other duties as assigned.
Demonstrate all Service Excellence Standards and Principles.
Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Sociology, Education or related field or a technical degree in areas of allied health.
OR Successful completion of the ParaPro Assessment.
OR - High School Diploma plus two years' experience in the area of mental health with demonstrable competence in required knowledge and responsibilities.Certain skills and experiences may serve as meeting position requirements with managerial approval.
Must demonstrate competence in obtaining, and/or recording general body appearance and mental status, general admission information and explaining the Patient Rights and responsibilities to all new patients.
Must maintain certifications in CPR/AED, First Aid and Handle with Care.
Must demonstrate basic knowledge of emotional and mental health and disease concepts including the disease of addiction.Must have clear communication/interaction skills and demonstrate competency in facilitating therapeutic groups.
Physical Demands: Moderate to heavy. Satisfactory health, strength and stamina to meet the physical, mental and emotional demands and stressors that position requires:walking, running, standing, lifting, irregular working hours, and assisting with the restraint
