The Alabama A&M University (AAMU) Community Development Corporation (CDC) is an independent private not-for-profit entity created in 1999 to involve Alabama A&M University faculty, staff, and students in addressing dilapidated housing and negative socioeconomic conditions in neighborhoods surrounding the campus. Our mission is to promote and assist citizens and local governments in revitalizing neighborhoods and building viable communities within the City of Huntsville and Madison County, Alabama.Since inception, the AAMU CDC has carried out numerous programs and projects but our primary activities today are building and selling affordable housing units and operating an after school tutoring and mentoring to address educational deficiencies in neighborhood youth; Recently, we expanded our activities by adding a home repair & maintenance program for elderly and disabled adults and a computer and information technology program to address digital technology literacy issues.We currently operate an after-school tutoring & mentoring program and summer camp for youth attending Title 1 schools in the City of Huntsville. Persons responding to this opportunity will work with the Huntsville School System, AAMU faculty and staff, local neighborhood organizations and other public and private entities to maintain and sustain the existing after-school program by designing and implementing one or more innovative educational training events and/or service learning projects; Also, the selected person will research and solicit grants and sponsorships to support the AAMU CDC, the Family Life Center and to assist youth in pursuing higher education opportunities;
