Job Purpose:

Operate one or more Electrical Discharge Machines (EDM) or similar equipment to specifications, following standard charts and manuals, applying knowledge of electrical-discharge machining process and methods, electric currents and circuitry, metal properties, and shop mathematics, in order to shape metal workpieces that adhere to extremely tight tolerances.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Operate Charmilles 240cc , Brother wire EDM, and a Charmille CNC Holepopper to blueprint specifications.

  • Run production per schedule.

  • Read blueprint and job order for product specifications such as dimensions, tolerances, and number of parts to be processed.

  • Use blueprint data to program Wire EDM using a cam system.

  • Use dial indicator to correctly square up work piece.

  • Perform routine maintenance on the Wire EDM machine.

  • Position and secure workpiece on machine table with clamps, vise, or fixture.

  • Position and secure electrodes in holder on surface plate, verifying concentricity, alignment, and depth, using measuring instruments, such as calipers and dial indicators.

  • Mount electrodes and holder on machine spindle, using vernier dials to verify alignment of electrode and workpiece.

  • Position gauge blocks, dial indicator and spindle stop on machine so that descending electrode will stop at specified depth when indicator feeler point touches gauge blocks.

  • Turn valve to adjust flow of dielectric coolant over electrode and workpiece or to immerse them in circulating bath.

  • Turn controls to adjust machine setting, such as voltage, current, frequency, and electrode feed rate, according to information on charts or knowledge of electrical discharge machining procedures.

  • Verify proper parts and fixturing.

  • Verify dimensions of finished work piece for conformance to specifications using optical comparator, gage blocks and gage pins.

  • Work with Team Leader to monitor and study cycle times.

  • Perform 1st piece and In-process inspections.

  • Implement continuous improvement activities.

  • Perform JobBOSS transactions.

  • Maintain good housekeeping practices and safe work environment.

  • Perform required daily maintenance to equipment and tools.

Level of Skill, Education and Experience:

High School Diploma or equivalent and at least two years EDM experience is required. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

VIEW JOBS 1/10/2019 12:00:00 AM 2019-04-10T00:00 Job Purpose: Set up and operate metal-grinding machines, such as external, surface, and centerless grinders, including Thru feed and In feed centerless grinders, Glebar, Royal Masters, CNC and Pointing grinders. Grind external cylindrical or tapered surfaces of workpieces to blueprint specs, follow tooling instructions and standard charts, apply knowledge of grinding procedures, in order to grind 1st run workpiece and production as required. Set up and operate secondary equipment and perform functions within department as necessary. Perform all tasks required of a Grinding Operator. Responsibilities: Perform set-up of production jobs. Support machines with set-up. Run machines, achieving print specifications including quality and through-put. Run production per schedule. Implement continuous improvement activities. Maintain a clean and safe work environment. Work from established procedures and setups to produce parts per print and quality standards. Perform JobBOSS transactions. Perform required daily maintenance to equipment and tools. Work on special projects such as new customer sales orders or research and development projects. Develop improvements to existing methods of grinding. Read blueprint & job order for product specs & tooling instructions, like dimensions, tolerances, number of parts to be ground, speeds, feed rates, holding fixtures, and grinding wheels to be used. Mount grinding wheel and regulating wheel on spindles with wrenches. Dress wheels to specifications, using dressing devices. Set specified grinding speeds, feed rates & spacing between wheel faces. Position & secure at specified height. Start machine, move controls to adjust machine settings, and observe operation. Verify 1st run product for conformance to specs. Use measuring instruments, ie, micrometers, calipers & pre-set gauges. Change worn grinding wheels, using wrenches. Feed machine by hand, set up automatic work-feeding device. Direct flow of coolant over cutting area. Measure workpiece prior to grinding to determine amount of material to be removed. Communicate to transfer and receive instructions and information as well as coordinate activities regarding the status of the operation of particular jobs. Perform 1st piece and In-process inspections. Simultaneous to grinding operation, perform a variety of secondary operations as required. Level of Skill, Education and Experience: H.S. Diploma or equivalent and at least one year experience in small device manufacturing environment required. Experience in medical device manufacturing, machinery, metals a plus. Must be able to read blueprints, drawings, specifications and quality plans and have very strong oral and written communication skills, be able to follow written and verbal instructions and be capable of meeting assigned deadlines. Good manual dexterity and ability to use measurement and inspection tools like micrometers, microscope, etc. Good work habits, strong workmanship and a positive attitude are required as well as an ability, desire and flexibility to perform a variety of machining operations.
