WCVB Channel 5, a Hearst-owned ABC affiliate, has an opening for a creative, collegial individual to be part of our award-winning, nightly half-hour news magazine program, Chronicle. We are seeking an accomplished video editor to support our mission to share the stories of New England in a visually stunning way. As member of the Chronicle team you will work both collaboratively and independently to help create programs that bring words and video to life. You will bring an artist's eye, attention to detail, and a sense of creativity and fun to the job.
You will create show projects in Adobe Premiere; edit nightly show opens and teases; digitize field SD cards, cut content for social media, record narration tracks, and manage the archiving process for Chronicle video. You will work closely with the Executive Producer and Managing Editor to prioritize tasks. While the primary responsibilities are within Chronicle, you will also edit the General Manager's weekly editorials and support WCVB's urban news and feature magazine program, Cityline. Chronicle editors also work closely with designer on graphics and with videographers on best practices.
You may occasionally edit half-hour Chronicle episodes and assist in shooting video in the field.
Job Responsibilities:
Cut nightly show opens and teases. Preview all packages prior to nightly broadcast and troubleshoot problems
Archive all original Chronicle content and manage the program's digital archives
Work with catalog systems to record and locate necessary video
Gather and edit video and still pictures
Possess the ability to edit show packages for both broadcast and digital platforms
Work with producers to ensure their creative vision is executed with vivid video and natural sound, music, and graphics
In person attendance is required
Requirements:
5-10 years of editing long-form packages
Minimum three years of experience working with Adobe Premiere
Videography experience strongly preferred
Exceptional ability to use digital editing tools, specifically the Adobe creative suite, and a willingness to work in a team-based environment
Outstanding organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks
Understanding of the principles and ethics of journalism
Ability to work under deadline pressure
Strong attention to detail
Equivalent military training from Defense Information School (DINFOS) and associated experience will be considered.
