The regional Editor works with a team of journalists who cover Minnesota from bureaus located across the state. As a crucial team member, you will edit daily, breaking, and enterprise stories for all MPR News platforms, including the website, social media, newsletters, and broadcast programing.
Our regional team is made up of people energized by a good story, who challenge each other to sharpen their reporting, and who genuinely love their work. Regional reporters cover a wide range of topics including - but not limited to - climate change impacts, the state's energy transition, tourism, education, health care, industry and politics. You will assist reporters with story selection and help team members navigate reporting challenges. Your duties will also include working with other editors to set the newsroom's short-term and long-term coverage agendas.
This is a position within the SAG-AFTRA bargaining unit at MPR News.
Expected Compensation Range: $37.05 - $44.46/ per hour. Exact hourly rate is determined by experience and education related to the role, organizational compensation structure and internal equity.

Your Role:
Coordinate and assign news stories produced by a team of regional reporters
Edit copy for radio, newsletters, online and visual platforms, social media
In breaking news situations, may be required to write for online or newscasts
Work with digital team on production, images, graphics
Contribute to setting coverage priorities with other editors
Fill in for other editors as needed
Coach staff on reporting, writing and on-air delivery
Work on specialized, focused projects including, but not limited to, Talking Sense - an online and in-person events platform and social media to help people have hard conversations, better.

Required Education and Experience:
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Experience in maintaining high journalistic standards, such as accuracy and fairness, under deadline pressure
Strong team member and leader
Track record of strong decision-making and independent work
Superior organizational and communication skills
Knowledge of broadcast and/or digital journalism newsgathering practices
Ability to assign and manage coverage of challenging news events
Strong interest in engagement tools to increase audience reach
Willingness to contribute to and participate in fostering a culture of equity and inclusion in support of company goals
Preferred Skills and Experience:
Proficient with AP Style
Experience with content management systems
Experience with audio editing
Experience with video journalism
Data journalism
