The Editor balances strong analytical, organizational, and editing skills with an innate sense of curiosity, problem-solving, and project management. The position requires sharp attention to detail and a steadfast dedication to customers of our growing Design Within Reach (DWR) brand.
The Editor will edit print, digital, and social assets developed for omni-channel marketing campaign focused on seasonal campaigns, furniture launches, events, partnerships, and sales. They ensure that all collateral is written in DWR's brand voice, is grammatically correct, and is consistent with content strategy standards established by the Director of Editorial and other DWR stakeholders. Oftentimes, the Editor will need to edit, and sometimes write, copy on tight deadlines to swiftly meet the needs of our merchandising strategy. The ideal candidate will have eCommerce experience in the furnishings industry.
The Editor collaborates with Merchants, Web Merchandisers, Project Managers, Graphic Designers, Art Directors and brand marketing leaders. The Editor reports to the Director of Editorial and manages two copywriters as well as freelancers.
About this opportunity
Line-edits the following assets for voice, style, formatting consistency, grammatical accuracy, punctuation, and spelling errors.
E-commerce and digital marketing campaigns
Segmented email marketing campaigns
Homepage, campaign page, landing page, and product page content for our E-commerce site
In-store signage
Print collateral including catalogs and direct-mail pieces
Product detail pages
Paid and organic social media
Banner advertisements and affiliate campaigns
Trade and VIP marketing initiatives
Internal communications as needed
Press and live event collateral
Mentor two copywriters and challenge them to develop new, more engaging ways of writing for our promotions and campaigns.
Check copy against marketing briefs to ensure that storytelling and content are aligned with marketing intent
Work collaboratively with Project Management team to ensure that copy is written and edited on deadline and on schedule
Contribute to editorial and storytelling strategy and brainstorms for campaigns and partnerships
Write copy as needed
Help evolve and maintain DWR style guide standards
Basic Qualifications
7+ year(s) of editing experience in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment
Exceptional organizational skills
Retail or online experience strongly preferred
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to successfully organize, prioritize, and self-manage editing under strict deadlines
Bachelor's degree in English, journalism, communications, advertising or marketing (or comparable work experience)
Proactive over-communicator who brings up issues as they arise, always asks questions, and sweats the details
Passion, energy, and enthusiasm for modern design, our products, and for creating editorial content
Combined right- and left-brain thinking to develop creative solutions for how to best communicate the value, quality, and details of our best-in-class products
Innovative ways to find new ways to meet our customers' needs
Customer-first mindset and drive
Proficiency in Word, Excel and Office 365 with a working knowledge of the Mac OS and Adobe Creative Suite
Experience with database tools and content management systems (Airtable and Wrike preferred)
Knowledge of how copy relates to design, graphics, and typography
Knowledge of Chicago Manual of Style is preferred, but not required
Love and knowledge of furniture design, home design, and/or industrial design is a plus

A starting compensation range for this role is $77,950.00 - $97,925.00. Relevant salary considerations will include candidate qualifications and experience, other business/organizational needs and market factors . You may also be eligible to receive a geographic premium, annual discretionary incentive and equity awards which are subject to the rules governing these programs.
