The Research editorial group of Wiley has an opening for a full-time Editor position, based in our Oxford UK or Hoboken US offices, for the open access publication Ecology and Evolution.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Assess submissions, manage peer-review, and make acceptance/revision/rejection decisions.

  • Coordinate with other editors based in academia who are responsible for the peer-review and decisions for a portion of submitted manuscripts.

  • Be responsible for the development of journal content, and maintain contact with authors and referees from all over the world.

  • Represent the journal within the researcher community, including travel to and presentations at scientific conferences and editorial board meetings.

  • Collaborate with other editors within Wiley's leading ecology and evolution portfolio to strengthen submission flow and enhance the author experience.

  • Work with marketing and editorial colleagues to promote the journal to authors, funders and the community of researchers.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR:

  • Ph.D. in ecology/evolution or related disciplines, with relevant publications.

  • Experience in science journal publishing and peer review management preferred.

  • Understanding of the ethical issues and financial drivers in journal publishing.

  • Strong negotiation/interpersonal skills to interact effectively with editors, authors, reviewers, and noted scientific authorities.

  • Ability to travel.

  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.

  • Curious, inquisitive mind and broad interest in science communication.

  • Excellent command of the English language and familiarity with social media tools.

We deliver high quality products for the K&L business with an emphasis on WileyPLUS course delivery. The Senior Production Editor is responsible for managing the content production activities related to print and digital products, online supplements, rich media components, and enhanced ebooks that are part of the WileyPLUS e-learning platform. WHAT YOU'LL DO: * Coordinate and monitor content production schedules of assigned print/digital content and production/QA schedule of rich media and assessment content to meet deadlines and to achieve quality, within budgets. * Liaise with Content Manager, authors, SMEs, editorial, production, global vendors, and publishing support to monitor production progress and avoid errors/delays. * Oversee vendor management of copyediting, proofreading, page composition, and course building as well as general oversight of ePub/HTML 5 content production, and digital assessment authoring for Higher Ed products. * Monitor production/QA of digital and assessment content, enhanced ebooks, and other non-print assets. Review all print and course-related content as necessary including, but not limited to, cover mechanical approval, page proofs, and online courses. * Ensure complete final archive of all content. * Manage spend for all content production-related activities. Produce assigned titles within budget. Create purchase orders. Review estimates and bills from vendors. Prepare and input accurate pricing information on time. Inform publisher, editor, and manager of costs and variances. * Implement and maintain production plan for each assigned title so that title meets target dates. Schedule title according to target release date and/or other target dates as indicated by Content Manager. Report any occurrences that may affect. Report accurate schedule status of all titles at production staff meetings. Create and maintain schedule data in project management system. Circulate schedule updates according to departmental guidelines. * Input and maintain accurate scheduled dates, costs, specifications, and administrative data and content in all required systems in a timely manner. * Disseminate and elicit information on all matters relevant to assigned projects to and from: author, Editor, Publisher, Production Manager, and Creative Services, Manufacturing, Marketing, Product Information, Media Development, and Production Technology staff, and other interested parties. * Offer technical advice and support to colleagues and authors as requested or needed. * Learn and use technology as it applies to production workflow and content management. Attend or request training when required or when appropriate to take advantage of advances in technology and to bring skill levels up to and exceeding position responsibility requirements in all areas.
