Wiley's Research business provides content-enabled solutions to improve outcomes in research, education and professional practice, delivering online tools, journals, books, databases, reference works and laboratory protocols. The Research editorial group of Wiley has an opening for a full-time Editor position, based in our Oxford UK or Hoboken US offices, for the open access publication Ecology and Evolution.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Assess submissions, manage peer-review, and make acceptance/revision/rejection decisions.

  • Coordinate with other editors based in academia who are responsible for the peer-review and decisions for a portion of submitted manuscripts.

  • Be responsible for the development of journal content, and maintain contact with authors and referees from all over the world.

  • Represent the journal within the researcher community, including travel to and presentations at scientific conferences and editorial board meetings.

  • Collaborate with other editors within Wiley's leading ecology and evolution portfolio to strengthen submission flow and enhance the author experience.

  • Work with marketing and editorial colleagues to promote the journal to authors, funders and the community of researchers.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR:

  • Ph.D. in ecology/evolution or related disciplines, with relevant publications.

  • Experience in science journal publishing and peer review management preferred.

  • Understanding of the ethical issues and financial drivers in journal publishing.

  • Strong negotiation/interpersonal skills to interact effectively with editors, authors, reviewers, and noted scientific authorities.

  • Ability to travel.

  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.

  • Curious, inquisitive mind and broad interest in science communication.

  • Excellent command of the English language and familiarity with social media tools.

Key Responsibilities: * Assess education, technology and academic trends in the Computer Science and Data Science and Analytics disciplines, and research current and emerging competitors in order to inform the direction of our products in these rapidly evolving and expanding markets. Sign, develop and publish innovative products that deliver superior learning outcomes in these markets. * Utilize and gather market and industry research to better understand the problems and needs of potential and existing customers and to inform a long-range product roadmap. * Manage productive relationships with authors, academic institutions and key industry and society partners. * Use data and customer driven insights to innovate new ways to solve key teaching and learning challenges for instructors and students. * Evangelize and socialize product strategies, vision and value propositions with internal and external stakeholders. * Challenge the status quo with an entrepreneurial spirit to keep your product portfolio on a growth trajectory. You should have a BA or equivalent degree/experience and a minimum of 2 years' experience in the areas of Publishing, EdTech or other online learning work. Excellent written and oral communication skills are a must, as is the ability to travel up to 20% of the year.
