Under the supervision of the Report Manager, this position edits and proofreads all Head Start monitoring reports, and ensures reports are clear, has the proper tone and voice , free of grammar and spelling errors and includes verbiage and sentence structure that meets the Office of Head Start (OHS) Standards.

Essential Duties

Content Management & Editing

  • Reviews and edits Head Start monitoring reports and other products as assigned; corrects grammar, spelling, punctuation, verbiage and sentence structure.

  • Supports the coordination of efforts of the product development workflow, facilitating smooth and timely communication among report processing team members.

  • Assists in proofreading other content to ensure accuracy and consistency of DLH and client reports and other products.

  • Supports the coordination of copy-editing training material and resources to support staff and reviewer consultants conducting monitoring reviews.

  • Maintains Head Start style guidelines document, maintaining accuracy and updating and distributing as necessary.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Performance Management

  • Maintain internal tracking system to manage reports as that move through the workflow.

  • Conducts substantive edit of all reports prior to dissemination to Report Manager for final comments to the client.

  • Performs quality edits of other Head Start monitoring contract and DLH products.

  • Participates in cross-functional training that supports the Aligned Monitoring System (AMS) 2.0 and OHS monitoring priorities.

  • Creates an individual professional development plan that aligns with the current skills required for the current monitoring process and monitoring review activities.

  • Participates in competency-based professional development to enhance knowledge and skills related to job functions and responsibilities.

  • Participates in internal and external training of the Head Start Program Performance Standards (HSPPS) and other regulations to support knowledge required for the current monitoring process and monitoring activities.

Required Skills

Unique Job Requirements and Characteristics

  • Minimum of 2 years' experience proofreading

  • Proficient with publishing (Adobe Acrobat PDF) software) and editing software (Grammarly) and word processing (Word).

  • Flexible to quickly adapt to changing needs of client and work environment.

Required Experience

Bachelor's degree communications, English, journalism and 2+ years experience in writing, editing, proofreading complex materials and reports and/or desktop publishing or equivalent combination of education and experience. Demonstrated proficiency with all Microsoft Office tools, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Knowledge of early childhood education and/or Head Start preferred.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS 1. 45% * Writing and editing: Conducts interviews, research, and writes engaging news, feature, and interpretive articles to inform and motivate ANA members and readers. Ghost-writes presidential editorials. Responsible for writing and development of the annual impact report and contributes to ANA Enterprise communications. Edits and rewrites story submissions as directed. Serves as contributing editor to ANA's member publications. Provides content development and editing, including substantive, copy, and proofreading, for ANA communications projects and across the enterprise. Uses specialized knowledge to provide guidance on style, format, and subject matter. 2. 20% * Analysis: Analyzes and monitors social, economic, and political issues in the public domain as to their effect on policies and programs of ANA and its individual and organizational members.
