Subject: Edison Day Curriculum Redesign Retreat (10 Edison Day Teachers and Administrators)
Location: Edison Day Academy
Dates/Times: 4 days during the Summer Break, four-hour sessions each day. (dates and times to be determined)
Purpose:
The purpose of the Summer Retreat is to redesign implementation of the mastery-based learning model with a focus on building teacher capacity to integrate and align live teaching assignments with independent, self-directed student work in a blended learning format. There will be a focus on creating standards-based grading and assessments that align with Khan Academy and Common Lit. Participants in the retreat will analyze student data (MCAS, STARR, and Khan Academy) to develop strategies to support SWD and ELL learners and will help redesign the advisory period to better support all students. At the conclusion of the Summer Retreat teachers will have designed units of instruction that integrate live, standards-based lessons and assessments that fit within the Khan Academy and Common Lit platforms. Teachers will have analyzed data to improve instruction and outcomes for SWD and ELL students and will have finalized a Character Strong and Restorative Justice curriculum scope and sequence for the Advisory Period.
Qualifications:
Broad representation of staff members including administrators and classroom teachers
Ability to fulfill project duties and responsibilities.
Interest and/or experience in data driven leadership.
Familiarity with Khan Academy, Common Lit., and Mastery based instruction at Edison Day Academy.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Design units of instruction that utilize a blended learning model to deliver instruction in a mastery-based curriculum.
Work as a member of a school-based team to review data and develop supports for all students.
Utilize resources within Character Strong and Restorative Justice literature to develop curriculum scope and sequence for
Advisory Period.
