Job Title: Seasonal Edible Landscape Assistant/Gardener

Reports To: Gardens Manager

FLSA classification: Non-Exempt

The job duties described below are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this job classification. All employees may be required to perform duties outside of their normal responsibilities from time to time, as needed.

Description of the Position

The Seasonal Edible Landscape Assistant/Gardener position is a specialty gardening position within the Edgefield Grounds Department. Duties include but are not limited to: assisting with all aspects of Vegetable Garden production throughout the course of the growing season as well as maintaining fruit trees and herb garden on property. The Edible Landscape Assistant will be expected to assist and participate in all other gardening and landscape maintenance projects on the property, as needed. Duties will include weeding, watering, mowing, pruning, harvest, pest management, mulching, fertilizing, and all phases of plant care. Each McMenamins employee will be expected to perform their job in a safe manner and report any safety concerns to Management in a timely manner. All McMenamins employees will also be expected to keep current on all company events, history and products. Other duties as assigned by Management.

Requirements of the Job:

  • General knowledge of plant material and previous gardening experience

  • Basic gardening skills and experience of vegetable garden production, orchard care and temperate fruit

  • Previous experience with tractor and other related power equipment preferred

  • Familiar with Integrated Pest Management strategies

  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills

  • Ability to work well as a team member and independently

Essential Functions of the Job:

  • Effectively maintain edible landscapes and plantings

  • Must have a value for diversity and the ability to work with individuals from different backgrounds

  • Safely lift and carry heavy objects with a hand truck or the help of another person if necessary

  • Ability to work in all kinds of weather conditions

  • Repetitive physical tasks, including bending, twisting, kneeling, reaching, grasping & lifting

  • Use of Power tools and equipment as well as some construction duties

  • Use and maintenance of tractor and heavy equipment

  • Ability to effectively meet deadlines

  • Ability to effectively communicate with others

  • Present a positive and professional attitude to co-workers and guests

  • Assisting customers as necessary
