ATTENDANCE REQUIRED FOR THIS POSITION ARE AS FOLLOWS Rotating 40 hour work week including weekends and holidays.
Responsibilities
Must be able to swim as per the American Red Cross Lifeguard certification standards. Must have the strength and endurance to perform rescues in the surf and currents of the Gulf.
Must be capable of recognizing hazards on the Gulf Beaches and in the Water off the beaches. Compiles reports on accidents and daily logs of activities. Must be able to create schedules as needed.
Respond to emergencies at the beach and act to prevent accidents in the water and on the beach.
Must have the physical strength to lift 34 lbs., drag or pull 50 lbs. and occasionally drag 100 plus lbs. Must have the audio sensitivity to distinguish between noise and distress calls on the beach.
Must have visual acuity to observe the behavior of swimmers in water up to distances of 1000 feet. Must be able to operate water and rescue vessels. Must be able to lead seasonal lifeguard staff.
Must assist in recruiting, hiring, and training of seasonal staff. Give beach safety presentations at community events. Assist in upkeep of all vehicles, facilities, and equipment.
Maybe asked to perform other duties as assigned related to beach rescue. Assist in organizing special events.
Qualifications
Work requires the ability to read and understand written instructions, to understand simple processes and the routine operation of machines. Must have a High School Diploma or GED and two (2) years of related experience.
Must be able to swim 500M in 10 minutes or less. Must obtain an American Red Cross Lifeguard and CPR Professional Rescuer Certifications within 2 months of hire. Higher level certifications may be substituted.
All required certifications must remain current as a condition of employment. Must have a valid driver's license at time of application and time of hire. Successful candidates must be able to attain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire.

Application review and the City may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.
Closing Statement
Selected applicants must be able to pass a background investigation and a pre-employment drug test. Any position that lists a minimum qualification for education level and/or license/certification will require the applicant to provide proof of documentation if selected for hire into the position with the City of Corpus Christi.
In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the general public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services.
This position is classified as "Safety Sensitive".
All employees in safety sensitive positions are subject to random drug testing, pursuant to City policy, HR 15.0 Alcohol and Drug Abuse.
