Job Description
JOB SUMMARY:
Performs Patient Care Activities as delegated by the Nurse and/or Physician for patients of all age's groups with both acute and chronic health problems. The Non-Licensed Emergency Department Technician provides direct patient care that encompasses the nursing assistant role, phlebotomy, and 12-lead ECG tracings.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Minimum of one year of acute care or hospital experience.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.
Work may occasionally require travel to other Carle Health facilities/hospitals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Under the direct supervision of the RN provides indirect care that supports the Emergency Department mission by:PARTICIPATION:in cost containmentdevelopment/maintenance of positive work environmentminimizing overtimeattending required classes and meetingsparticipating in unit committeesadheres to all policies and proceduresPROMOTING PATIENT SAFETY:applies protective devices correctlyanticipates patient request, makes rounds every hour as a minimumassists RN in planning patient caremaintains a safe unit environmentPROMOTING INFECTION CONTROL:washes hands before and after patient contacthandles soiled linen, equipment and instruments per protocolmaintains sterile asepsischanges and secures dressingsmaintains isolation techniquePROMOTING PERSONAL SAFETY:utilizes p.p.e. appropriatelykeeps hallways clear of furniture/equipment, everything on one sidePROVIDES DAILY INVENTORY MAINTENANCE:maintains support areas (kitchen, nurses' station, utility rooms) clean/stockedrestocks equipment in patient roomsaccountable for wheelchairs, thermometers and other pertinent equipmentcompletes appropriate work form for maintenance and clinical engineering service, equipment work orders, including removing from service

Foley catheter, straight cath insertion/placement, minicath - excludes children and infantsperforms and documents selected diagnostic tests - phlebotomy & 12-lead ECG recordingperforms lab testing as appropriateprovides care for the patient requiring restraint or seclusion
Performs splint application (Methodist only)Possesses knowledge and skills necessary to obtain adequate lab specimens for testing.Performs patient bedside lab testing and associated quality control in compliance with medical provider's orders and hospital lab procedures/policies.PROVIDES OBSERVATION AND MEASUREMENT OF PATIENT INFORMATION PER POLICY:temperatures - oral, rectal (axillary only under the direction of RN)Pulse - apical and radial,Blood pressure,height and weight,intake and output,pain ratings
Demonstrates a practical problem-solving approach to patient moving and handling issues.Demonstrates skills to promote patient and staff safety through appropriate use of lift equipment.
Applies external urinary cathetersempty urinary drainage bags using goggles and glovescollect specimens for ordered testscatheterize female and male patientscommunicates any intake and output
