Job Summary The Emergency Department phone tech undertakes the administrative and support tasks required to keep the ED running smoothly. The Phone Tech is responsible for answering phones and directing calls, assisting with admit and transfer processes, as well as unit specific tasks. Impeccable communication and exceptional customer service skills are a must. # Job Responsibilities Acts as central information resource for Owensboro Health staff, patients, and guests. Communicates and interacts effectively with all contacts which may include guests, patients, physicians, employers, and their office staff. Manages patient documents, including admission and discharge documents. Takes accurate messages and ensures timely delivery. Completes pages and coordinates calls with specialists. Maintains team member assignments accurately and efficiently. Enters data into patient records accurately. Receives, screens, routes, and responds to incoming telephone calls. May be required to assist in maintaining the cleanliness of the facility and the stocking of supplies. Maintains centrally accessible resource materials (phone books, quick reference for supplies). Complies with privacy and confidentiality policies when communicating with callers and guests. Qualifications High school diploma, General Equivalency Diploma (GED) or higher required upon hire No experience required No licensure/certification/registration required Skills and Attributes Requires critical thinking skills and decisive judgment. Works under minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action. Impeccable communication skills to keep every unit member up-to-date. Excellent organizational skills to juggle multiple tasks and responsibilities Strong attention to detail to maintain accurate patient records. Exceptional customer service skills.
