The Department of Technology, Management and Budget supports the business operations of state agencies through a variety of services, including building management and maintenance, information technology, centralized contracting and procurement, budget and financial management, space planning and leasing, construction management, motor vehicle fleet operations, and oversight of the state retirement systems.
This position serves as an economic analyst producing Michigan's official employment, unemployment, and workforce data in cooperation with the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics Current Employment Statistics (CES) and Local Area Unemployment Statistics (LAUS) programs. Work involves monthly review of preliminary and final estimates of payroll jobs by industry for Michigan and all metro areas. Analyst will assist with the production of job estimates, aid in the annual processing of sub-state estimates, produce written analysis on Michigan workforce trends, contribute to publications, conduct employment research, maintain databases and spreadsheets, disseminate labor market information, and compile information on local employment developments. Additionally, the analyst will assist with the completion of deliverables funded by the workforce grant from the U.S. Department of Labor, Employment and Training Administration.
Economic Analyst 9-P11 - Position Description
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of economics, labor market structure and conditions, forecasting, research and analysis; graphic, tabular, and narrative techniques for data and information presentation.
Ability to produce clear and accurate written analysis of economic trends.
Ability to work independently and set daily priorities.
Ability to communicate effectively and maintain good professional relations.
Knowledge of computer software.

Education
Possession of a bachelor's degree with a major in economics.
Experience
Economic Analyst 9

One year of professional experience performing economic analysis and modeling activities equivalent to an Economic Analyst 9.
Economic Analyst P11
Two years of professional experience performing economic analysis and modeling activities equivalent to an Economic Analyst, including one year equivalent to an Economic Analyst 10.
