We are currently recruiting for an eCommerce Packaging Engineer located in our Support Center (Global Headquarters) located in Irving, TX.

What will you be doing?

The eCommerce Packaging Engineer designs, tests, and implements packaging designs to ensure optimal protective packaging containers for the eCommerce fulfillment operation. They will analyze the design and specifications to determine the required characteristics, special handling, and type of materials required for proper fulfillment out of each node. This individual will develop the standards and guidelines for utilizing proper packaging elements to pack out all types of product with optimal efficiency and asses the cost for the organization's eCommerce fulfillment. They work with internal resources and packaging suppliers to achieve functional packaging goals.

How will you do it?

  • Oversee and manage complete packaging development process, including the creation of packaging designs, materials utilized, and performance testing

  • Serve as a point of contact for Continue Process Improvement (CPI) and cost savings projects, including but not limited to, material reduction, packaging redesigns, SKU consolidation, and automation projects

  • Conduct onsite eCommerce audits to identify areas of opportunity such as dimensional weight

  • Troubleshoot new and existing packaging opportunities involving designs, materials, processes and provide creative, timely and cost-effective solutions

  • Review, monitor, and report out on packaging effectiveness

  • Establish standards and guidelines for supplier evaluation; evaluate and select packaging suppliers/vendors and periodically conduct vendor reviews

  • Works closely with suppliers, engineering, eCommerce teams, and operations

  • Identify and implement cost saving initiatives related to packaging materials, labor, efficiency, transportation, and storage

  • Optimize packaging supply base for cost, lead time, quality, standardization, supply assurance, and compliance with customer, regulatory and internal requirements

  • Specify and recommend efficiency tools and test methods to develop and validate packaging designs

  • Develop and implement comprehensive test plans to ensure that packaging exceeds customer specifications

  • Create and drive a culture of "best in class" operations

  • Work in coordination with eCommerce teams and Distribution leadership teams to build best practices for entire Supply Chain

  • Build relationships across the organization

  • Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements

Minimum Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • College degree is required, Packaging Engineering, Engineering or Supply Chain preferred

  • 5 + years of experience in eCommerce or consumer packaging

  • Must be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously

  • Knowledge and understanding of packaging design validation standards, drafting, and specification standards is essential.

  • Knowledge of the various packaging materials and the strengths and weaknesses of each

  • Packaging engineering experience in eCommerce / distribution setting (retail experience is a plus)

  • Ability to communicate written and verbally with customers, management, coworkers and present to large and diverse audiences

  • Able to understand and utilize management reports and plans to conduct business

  • Experienced Six Sigma Green / Black belt

  • Proven success in leading people and managing processes and system improvements within multiple sites and/or department

  • Previous experience in Manhattan WMoS, Red Prairie WMS, Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Visio

  • High degree of problem-solving and analytical skills

  • Ability to build relationships at various levels and influence decision

  • Self-starter constantly seeking new projects

  • Knowledge of sourcing packaging and the general procurement role

  • Acting as a subject matter expert during the sourcing process and when dealing with team members / suppliers

Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • A graduate degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain, Engineering or manufacturing-related disciplines

  • Knowledge and understanding of ISTA / ASTM testing protocol

  • Certified Six Sigma Green / Black Belt

  • Broad knowledge of multiple packaging materials (i.e. fiber based, polymer based, etc.)

  • Broad knowledge of multiple industry segments (i.e. eCommerce, retail, CPG, etc.)

  • Understanding of the cost relationship between the various packaging materials

  • Advance degree in packaging or business

Work collaboratively with merchandise planning, merchant teams, and marketing to understand and react to current trends and business needs. Develop and communicate actionable business analysis and strategies to support achievement of goals. 1. Develop, present, and execute open-to-buy strategies pre-season & in-season. Responsible for successful development, execution, and communication of financial and inventory plans. Partner with merchandise planners to ensure sufficient inventory levels are maintained to support ecom business trends. Revise category plans as needed. Implement strategies that meet and exceed sales, gross margin, GMROI, and inventory goals for all business categories. Reforecast sales each week and react to changes in business. 2. Manage all Promotional Pre-planning efforts to include building prior year's promotional cadence, analyzing performance by promotion and providing key learnings to cross functional teams. Be the ecom representative in all promotional related meetings and share feedback with the team. Provide the Site Merchandise team with all the information needed for the promotion to be executed correctly. Recommend key items for promotions based on weeks of supply and IMU threshold. Perform in-depth analysis on affiliate promotion performance and provide recommendations for future cadence. 3. Develop strategy and associated reporting to define lifecycle of Online Exclusive products and evaluate current performance. 4. Maximize profitability through SKU inventory rationalization and quantify impact on business. Partner with store merchandise planners to ensure allocation of product from warehouse to UPS facility maintains target instock rates. Provide ad hoc reporting and analysis of weekly business and as needed. Analyze historical data and current trends to identify risks and opportunities in all categories. 5. Collaborate with cross functional business partners on strategies and action plan to achieve/exceed company goals. Meet with Merchandising on a regular basis to develop and communicate strategies that align future financial and product opportunities. Partner with eCommerce marketing team to understand daily email cadence and messaging represented large volume or contribution. Performs additional duties and projects as assigned.
