GENERAL SUMMARY:

Assumesresponsibility for maintaining high quality Cardiac Sonography services at MercyMedical Center. Oversees general daily activities encouragingefficient work flow and cost effective services within the Cardiac SonographyDepartment. Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills to foster a positiveculture within the echo lab.

ESSENTIALFUNCTIONS:

  • Assumes situational responsibility, authority andaccountability for the Cardiac Sonography department.

  • Provides care to neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adultand geriatric patients.

  • Develops and implements department objectives incollaboration with staff and leadership.

  • Counsels and monitors clinical performance of staff;assists in performance appraisals; promotes staff clinical development.

  • Works with manager to promote staff compliance ofobjectives and the implementation of procedures and policies.

  • Assists in conducting interviews for prospectiveemployees; works with the Personnel Department in recruiting /hiring newpersonnel.

  • Monitors the physical environment of the departments incompliance with Joint Commission standards

  • Manages and coordinates the activities of the CardiacSonography with other areas of the department, hospitals and clinics to ensure andmaintain patient care.

  • Responsible for the management of work assignments,schedules, and orientation of the technologists.

  • Participates in the purchase/maintenance of equipmentand contracts/meetings with vendors

  • Keeps abreast of current trends, newequipment/procedures and informs Cardiac Sonography Manager and ClinicalDirector.

  • Monitors technical performance of staff, providesfeedback and promotes staff development

  • Works in collaboration with leadership to coordinatestaffing, protocols, IAC accreditation and equipment management.

MARGINALFUNCTIONS:

  • Participates in preparing the Cardiac Sonography Departmentoperating and capital budgets.

  • Assists in developing and maintaining competencies forall respective employees

  • Serves as a resource person to other health careprofessional and laypersons.

Makes calls to patients

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Successful completion of an accredited two-year CardiacSonography program.

  • Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS)

  • Maintains active registry status in with ARDMS

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for the Healthcare Providercertified or obtained within three (3) months of hire. Acceptable credentialing bodies andcertifications include American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuerand American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers.

  • Four years clinical Cardiac Sonography experiencerequired

  • Leadership experience preferred

  • Bachelor's degree preferred at time of hire.
