The Patricia Carbine Childcare Center located in Midtown Manhattan, inside the landmark New York Life Building is looking for a dynamic Director to lead their Backup Childcare Program. The center provides care for children between the ages of 6 weeks through 13 years of age, and is open Monday through Friday from 8 am to 6 pm. This is a 12 month program, and is a wonderful opportunity in a great setting.

Center Directors must pass state and company background checks. Experience and educational requirements include:

  • At least three years of center leadership/management experience.

  • Professional teaching experience with infant to preschool children.

  • Bachelor's degree or above in ECE or related field required.

  • New York State Teaching Certification in N-6, B-2, 1-6, Special Education B-2 or 1-6, or School Building Leadership with a focus in ECE required.

The Graduate Center's commitment to research and scholarship for the public good is exemplified by its more than 30 centers, institutes, and initiatives, including its Advanced Science Research Center (ASRC), a 200,000 square-foot facility in upper Manhattan, designed to promote collaboration among scientists in five areas of global research and innovation: nanoscience, photonics, structural biology, neuroscience, and environmental sciences. The Graduate Center (GC) benefits from highly ambitious and diverse students and alumni—who in turn teach hundreds of thousands of undergraduates every year. Through its public programs, the Graduate Center enhances New York City's intellectual and cultural life. The Child Development and Learning Center at the GC educates and cares for approximately 30 preschool children of GC students and their families. The Center also serves as a lab school for faculty and students conducting research pertinent to preschool children. The program is play-based and places particular emphasis on each child's social and emotional development to create and foster a strong foundation for future academic learning. Reporting to the Student Life Director, the Student Life Child Care Center Manager will direct and provide overall organization and guidance for the Child Development and Learning Center and its activities. Duties include but are not limited to: * Directs the hiring, supervision and evaluation of all teachers, teaching assistants, fieldwork interns and volunteers; manages staffing patterns and classroom scheduling; and provides staff development opportunities. * Develops and supervises the implementation of a developmentally appropriate, child centered curriculum. * Oversees the program's admission procedures including ongoing recruitment, scheduling parent tours, maintaining a waiting list and facilitating registration. * Manages the program's budget and related financing; identifies sources of funding, including grant opportunities, to support program development and operational costs and coordinates fundraising efforts. * Maintains compliance with licensing and regulatory guidelines, including the NYC Department of Health, Division of Day Care. * Prepares documents and reports for the Board of Directors of the Child Development and Learning Center. * Develops and promotes parent and family involvement activities including orientation, annual curriculum meeting and other events. * Provides family support services and supports children and families receiving special education services through Early Intervention and Committees on Preschool Special Education. * Identifies opportunities to promote the Child Development and Learning Center to newly admitted and prospective students. * Works closely with GC faculty and PhD students to conduct and facilitate relevant research projects. * Participates in relevant meetings within the GC, Child Care Council at CUNY and the Central Office. * Supervises two full-time head teachers, three full time assistant teachers, two part-time teachers and four Graduate Center Doctoral student employees. * Performs other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS BA in one or combination of following areas: Early Childhood Education, Business Management, Organizational Management or Communications; MA preferred. Must meet NY State licensing requirements and all other regulatory requirements for a child care director. Five plus years' director experience in a licensed child care setting preferred plus three years' teaching or supervisory experience.
