Position: Exceptional Children's Preschool Coordinator

Reports to: Exceptional Children's Director

Supervises: Pre K Itinerant teacher and Pre K Teacher Assistant

Location: Building 2 Exceptional Children

Months: 12

Travel: Within the district

Qualifications/Certifications

  • BS/BA degree from accredited institution required, Master's degree preferred

  • Licensed in area of Special Education, and Highly Qualified

  • 2 years of experience in an administrative/leadership role

  • 5 years of classroom teaching experience, including early childhood Birth to K-12

Job Summary

The Preschool Program Coordinator works closely with the EC Director and Itinerant teacher to

implement aspects of enrollment, program monitoring, reporting, data collection and

communication to ensure the continued success of the North Carolina State Preschool Program

for Hoke County Schools. Ensure the eligibility, selection, and enrollment processes adhere to

state guidelines. Review all applications received and work directly with families to ensure that

all necessary enrollment/intake forms are completed and obtained in a timely manner for all

children/families assigned to their TEAM Preschool sites. All state and federal Exceptional

Children's policies and procedures are followed according to IDEA. Also, develop relationships

with staff, partners, parents, community partners, volunteers and other community early

childhood programs. Your duties and responsibilities as Preschool Coordinator are to

oversee preschool curriculum and monitor early childhood education staff in your

program or district. You ensure that the staff and the program are doing all they can to

prepare each student for entry into kindergarten.

Special Knowledge and Skills

1.Ability to effectively direct, plan, implement and evaluate programs in a school-based

environment.

2.Good communication skills

3.Overall knowledge of the curriculum for the assigned level (Birth-Kindergarten).

4.Ability to collaborate with community agencies/programs.

5.Knowledge of the federal and state and local policies governing students with disabilities.

6.Ability to interpret policy and procedures.

7.Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff and the public from diverse cultural,

social, economic, and educational backgrounds.

8.Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and contribute to a diverse workplace through

ideas and experience.

9.Computer proficiency in Microsoft Suite including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint as well as

software applications relevant to area of responsibility.

ESSENTIAL Duties and Responsibilities

  • Establishes a coherent, collaborative system of early learning initiatives for the programsand services that benefit children and families of Hoke County Schools.

  • Assists with the development and implementation of long and short-term strategic initiatives.

  • Works collaboratively with community partners to achieve the goal of increasing the opportunity for children to access high quality early learning opportunities.

  • Collaborates with district and school-based administrators and appropriate agencies toensure adherence to early learning guidelines and improved student outcomes

  • Manages the day-to-day operations of the district's Pre-K program and coordinates Pre-K transition activities.

  • Builds coordination of services and articulation between the early learning and elementary levels of the instructional program

  • Supports the transition of students entering Kindergarten from community-based early learning programs.

  • Assists with the creation and implementation of an early learning program thatencompasses the whole child cognitively (academic programs), socially, and emotionally.

  • Supports staff in developing and improving learning opportunities for students throughearly childhood curriculum development and providing resources and training to support and improve the implementation of the curriculum.

  • Collects and analyzes data regarding the performance and experiences of all studentsand other pertinent information affecting the design and implementation of services andprograms, using the information to recommend new programs and modifications inexisting programs.

  • Creates and sustains a positive and collaborative environment for central and school-based personnel.

  • Develops and maintains strong relationships with key stakeholders, including families,community providers, partners, teachers, leaders, and others.

  • Supervises assigned personnel, provides assistance, conducts performance appraisals,and makes recommendations for appropriate employment actions.

  • Assists with the preparation of narrative and data-driven reports to ensure reportingrequirements are met for state and federal agencies.

  • Keeps abreast of current research, theory, and trends, and provide leadership in areasas appropriate to the district's needs.

  • Models and requires the use of leadership practices that promote high-performance,ethical behavior, collegiality, collaboration, and fairness.

  • Required to have prompt, regular attendance in-person and be available to work on-site,in-person during regular business hours.

  • Create a community culminating activity with local stakeholders and families

  • Professional dress code is expected

  • Maintain a positive working relationship with all office employees

  • Performs other duties as assigned by Exceptional Children's Director
