Position Description

Position Title: Exceptional Children's Coach for Students with Autism

Reports To: EC Program Specialist for Autism/Director of the Exceptional Children's Department

Supervises: None

Position Summary: The Exceptional Children's Coach for Students with Autism will provide

school support teachers to promote academic and behavior growth for students identified on the

autism spectrum. The Coach for Students with Autism will provide and model evidence based

practices and help design, implement and evaluate programming and services that meet the

individual needs of students with autism in K-12 classes throughout the district.

Qualifications:

? Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited College/University.

? Minimum of 3-5 years of successful classroom teaching experience in Special Education.

? Current Special Education teaching licensure in North Carolina.

? Experience working with students determined eligible for special education in the

category of autism.

Responsibilities:

? Assist Program Specialists with task and initiatives that improve the quality of

programming and instruction for students with autism.

? Work collaboratively with Exceptional Children Program Staff to facilitate

communication with administration.

? Programming support to students with autism in all continuums of alternative educational

placements.

? Assist teachers in collection, assessment and interpreting data needed to design

individualized instructional programs that align with Individual Education Program (IEP)

goals.

? Assist teachers in developing effective interventions and evidence based practices based

on the unique needs of the student.

? Assisting in developing positive behavioral strategies based on the unique needs of the

student.

? Facilitate professional development activities in collaboration with the EC Program

Specialist for Autism.

? Work collaboratively with the EC Program Specialist for Autism in implementation of

the district Autism Strategic Plan

? Be an active member of the Autism Coaching Team.

? Maintain required documentation related to job tasks and communications

? Participate in required meetings and trainings

? Maintain professionalism and confidentiality

? Work collaboratively with teachers, staff members and EC staff

Term of Employment: 10 months
