The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) is the nation's most effective environmental action organization. Position Summary:

NRDC is seeking a Regional Communications Manager to focus on developing and executing media strategies to advance our legislative, environmental and advocacy priorities in eastern states, with particular focus on New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and North Carolina. The Regional Communications Manager will develop proactive communications plans, messaging strategy and press materials that achieve media results, support advocacy goals and promote NRDC's experts as leaders in local, regional and national environmental policy, litigation, and advocacy space. The position will function within the institution's national media team, working in close coordination with campaigners from NRDC's Center for Political Advocacy, to elevate NRDC's profile in these states and attract new supporters and allies to our advocacy efforts. This individual must possess a strong work ethic and commitment to NRDC's core values and mission. They will identify and work with local, national and sometimes international media outlets and cultivate relationships with reporters, bloggers, editors and other media professionals to publicize and communicate NRDC's strategic priorities. The Eastern Regional Communications Manager will also coordinate closely with various coalitions to advance NRDC's work.


  • Manage media operations for targeted city, state and local campaigns, as assigned by the National Media Director.

  • Work with legal, scientific and other advocacy program staff to develop effective message and communications strategies for a range of environmental and energy policy goals.

  • Regularly conduct targeted outreach to local, state, regional and national reporters and bloggers

  • Develop key relationships with press and secure top tier media hits.

  • Respond in real time to media inquiries on a range of issues (from TV networks and cable television to the trade press and activists-bloggers).

  • Prepare and place news releases, op-eds, letters to the editor and other editorial products.

  • Collaborate with other environment groups on joint efforts.

  • Create and implement crisis communication strategy as needed.

  • Act as on-the-record spokesperson for NRDC as needed.

  • Provide media relations coaching and training to staff and prepare NRDC experts for interviews and other public appearances.

  • Oversee and mentor communications program assistant to meet media team's goals.

Job grade for this role is Solves 2 with a salary ranging from a minimum of $64,500.00 and midpoint of $67,200.00. We will require approx. 2 / 3 days per week or 20 hours and this will be based out of the New York Support Office.</p><ul> <li>Work with the global Head of Comms to define the Soho Home communications strategy for the US market, including key focus areas and brand positioning.</li> <li>Establish and maintain strong relationships with press, interior designers, influencers and strategic brand partners. Using your network to build positive brand perception and share of voice in the interior’s marketplace. </li> <li>Secure consistent, strategic and on-brand editorial coverage across key digital and print outlets.</li> <li>Translate global communication initiatives and activate within the US market. Creating a territory specific calendar and driving regionalisation where required. Collaborating with key stakeholders across UK and US support offices to ensure maximum synergy and effectiveness. </li> <li>Define and deliver launch plan for Soho Home’s first standalone store in New York. Including a launch event and ongoing activations. Growing a presence for the store, and driving footfall. </li> <li>Work with our US wholesale partner/s to successfully launch and drive ongoing awareness through their channels. Ensuring all activity is on brand, and in sync with wider activity. Be the central point of contact, and lead all sign off requirements and activation logistics internally. </li> <li>Work with our US wholesale partners to activate launch initiatives and drive further support through their channels. Acting as the internal comms leads for all internal activation and sign off requirements.</li> <li>Identify new ways to introduce Soho Home to, and collaborate with our members. Working with membership teams across each North America Soho House locations to understand the opportunities on a local level and to better deliver against them.</li> <li>Execute US influencer activity in line with the global strategy. Pro-actively identifying new partners, owning the outreach, negotiations, contracts and deliverables. Overseeing logistics through to final delivery with departmental support.</li> <li>Identifying new content opportunities and ideas to drive customer acquisition in the US market. Frequently feeding back and collaborating with global content and marketing teams to shape the ongoing strategy. </li> <li>Be the eyes and ears for the US market.
