The JCC is currently hiring dedicated Early Childhood Education (ECE) Teachers for full and part-time openings in their licensed, Paths to Quality Level 3 childcare center. Our ECE Teachers facilitate children's learning through implementation of unique lesson plans applying the Early Learning Foundations, integrate the interest of the children into activities and projects, and utilize the environment as a third teacher. Our school focuses on developing social, emotional, physical, and cognitive skills for life so that each child in our program will be well prepared socially and academically for the years ahead. The ECE prides itself on being a second home to the children and families they serve, and a community of ECE professionals.

As a teacher at the JCC, you become a part of 100 years of serving the Indianapolis community through recreational, social, and educational programming. Extend your classroom environment by taking advantage of our 40-acre campus that includes several courtyards, woods, nature trails, an art gallery as well as inter-generational programming with the residents of Hooverwood. The ECE program provides a specialty curriculum in swimming that takes place in our indoor therapy pool and outside waterpark during the summer months. The JCC embodies a holistic approach of wellness- optimal healthy living for the mind, body and spirit not only for our members, but for the staff who serve the children and families of the Early Childhood Education program.

Minimum Qualifications:


The Early Preschool Teacher, working with 2 ? - 3 year olds, will co-lead in establishing curriculum for classroom and working with co-teacher to provide a loving and nurturing environment and implement activities which promote stimulation, learning and fun.


  • Maintains and orderly and safe classroom environment.

  • Creates a loving, warm and nurturing environment for the children.

  • Actively participates in all activities with children.

  • Communicates with co-teacher and/or parents at the beginning and end of the day.

  • Assists with activity planning and preparation of materials and supplies for daily use.

  • Any additional duties as assigned by management.


  • CDA certification;

  • Associate degree in Early Childhood Education or;

  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 6 credit hours of Child Development or equivalent is required;

  • Minimum of 2 years of infant childcare experience required;

  • Must be CPR & First Aid Certified.


  • Knowledge of child development and/or early childhood education.

  • Knowledge of general safety rules and basic first aid.

  • Knowledge of toilet learning process.

  • Ability to interact with children and remain calm.

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks.

  • Good communication skills.

  • Ability to work effectively in teams and individually.

  • Ability to always exhibit good judgment, maturity and stability.

The work environment is usually fast paced and the position requires high mobility, standing, walking, bending and sitting on the floor at the child's level. Must be able to lift and carry young children up to 40 pounds.

Provide for health and safety of all children in his/her classroom. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned * Responsible for the overall cleanliness and organization of the classroom. * Implements the curriculums approved for use by Policy Council and Board of Directors. * Communicates and interacts with children, staff, parents and the public in a pleasant and respectful manner. * Writes developmentally and age appropriate lesson plans that include individualization for each child. * Uses developmentally appropriate techniques to interact with children - individually or in groups - to support learning throughout the day. * Ensures that materials to improve and enhance the mandated Head Start Outcomes and Domains are accessible to the children. * Completes and scores required assessments and screenings, as outlined in the Education and Early Childhood Development Standard Operating Procedures. * Regularly records child response to lesson planning and make appropriate adjustments. * Documents the children's work using the eight forms of evidence including goal(s) and leveling. * Conducts a minimum of two (2) home visits per year per child. Submits home visit reports to Center Director as he/she designates. * Abilities to, with or without reasonable accommodations: talk, hear, stand, reach with hands and arms; stoop; kneel; crouch; crawl; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; see up close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. * Must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to one hundred (100) pounds. * Ability to collaborate, effectively facilitate change, communicate opening and effectively, delegate, be flexible, good time/project management, task driven, willingness to learn. * Other duties may be assigned.
