JOB TITLE: EARLY INTERVENTION / WBSD K-12 and TOTE

OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST

JOB SUMMARY: The Early Intervention Occupational Therapist provides services through modeling and coaching at the homes and other community settings of families with children, birth to three, with disabilities, developmental delays, and/or special health care needs. The OT provides consultative services to teaching staff to support student's IEP goals related to gross/fine motor skills, perceptual motor, sensory processing, and feeding skills. The OT is part of the Early Intervention multidisciplinary evaluation team and participates in the evaluation of students' birth to three to determine special education and Early On eligibility as well as Woodhaven Brownstown K-12 support.

MINIMAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Licensed by the State of Michigan as an Occupational Therapist.

  • Have earned a Master's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited college or university and successfully completed the national occupational therapy registration examination.

  • Experience working in a school environment preferred.

  • Physically able to position and transfer students.

  • Pediatric experience desired.

  • Must be self-directed, flexible, organized, and have good oral and written communication skills.

  • Valid Michigan driver's license.

  • Have reliable transportation to perform home visiting

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (May include but not be limited to):

  • Serve as a member of evaluation team for Early On MMSE programing eligibility.

  • The OT's assessment of students may include (but not limited to) the following areas-adaptive skills; sensory motor processing - sensory motor, perceptual motor, reflex development/integration, overall motor development.

  • Interpret physician's orders related to professional area of responsibility.

  • Clean and maintain equipment used by therapy staff.

  • Plan, organize, and run motor skills groups for parents and children birth to three years.

  • Participate in the completion of evaluation paperwork, MET, IEP, IFSP and home program planning.

  • Maintain treatment/progress notes and Medicaid documentation per professional standards.

  • Must have good interpersonal skills with children and adults.

  • Support families in seeking and utilizing community resources.

  • Other duties as assigned by the special education director or supervisor.
