Primary Purpose:

The role of the Early Childhood Director is to develop, implement, direct, and evaluate the assigned content area plan and services in compliance with federal performance standards.

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification: Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education

Pediatric CPR/First aid

Special Knowledge/Skills: communication and interpersonal skills

knowledge/skills appropriate to assigned content area

computer and software knowledge

excellent organizational skills

Experience: 3 years experience in a licensed childcare facility

5 years management experience

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

General

  • Responsible for following and complying with all AISD and EHS Staff Policies and Procedures.

  • Maintain professional work environment through a positive attitude, punctuality, regular attendance, phone etiquette, and personal appearance.

  • Give leadership to the development of an integrated and quality content area service plan and assist in evaluation and enrichment of all facets of the component.

  • Advise the director in preparation of a budget for the assigned content area.

  • Assist in determining training needs of staff, parents' and/or persons in the assigned content area and arrange for or provide the training when appropriate.

  • Attend staff meetings, professional development, and prescribed training, as necessary.

  • Supervise and train volunteers and content area staff.

  • Keep proper records and documentation to track and report content area service data and progress. Submit reports as required.

  • Ensure compliance with all AISD, Child Care Regulations, HS Federal Performance Standards, and all other licensing or funding agency requirements pertaining to the content area.

  • Maintain Program Service Plans.

  • Anyone who works for Early Head Start Program has the primary responsibility for the health and safety of children, staff, parents, and volunteers.

  • Project enthusiasm for program goals, philosophy, relationships, and job responsibilities, maintaining a good attitude and working in a professional manner.

  • Cooperative and friendly toward co-workers and everyone else employee comes in contact

  • Maintain a regular daily work schedule to ensure continuity of care for families and children.

  • Accurately documents, maintains reports, and tracks referrals, follow-up and other services to families. Keep timely, clear, and accurate documentation.

  • Work to assure that all information is maintained in a confidential manner that conforms to the program's confidentiality policy.

  • Makes appropriate referrals to other leadership team members as necessary and follows up through careful documentation and tracking

  • Provide on-going communication with and serve as a role-model for families with sensitivity to cultural differences.

  • Work in partnership with all content areas to ensure integration and continuity of quality services to children and families.

  • Participate in annual program self-assessment, development of campus improvement plan, and annual revision of content area service plans.

  • Substitute in the classroom to allow classroom teachers to attend meetings, conferences, lunch, etc.

  • Serves as an advocate and a public relations representative for the program, and children and

  • families by representing EHS on boards, committees, etc.

  • Performs other duties as assigned by the EHS Director.

Other-Content Area Specific:

  • Support board and administrative policies and decisions.

  • Assists with the planning and administration of all aspects of the program to assure compliance with all guidelines

  • Serves as the acting director in the director's absence

  • Supports the daily operations of Crockett

  • Attends the Policy Council or other meetings to represent the director in his/her absence as requested

  • Conducts management team meetings in the absence of the director as requested

  • Assists in the interviewing, hiring and evaluation of all education staff and other staff as requested

  • Directly supervises and ensures an annual evaluation is completed for all education staff

  • Implements and monitors the New Teacher Orientation process

  • Assists in the internal monitoring process

  • Keeps staff informed of changes, results of observations, etc. through written documentation, verbal dialogue and ongoing feedback

  • Provides reports and documentation to other agencies in a timely manner (i.e. , CCS, CCR, etc.)

  • Periodically meets with program staff for planning, management, and review purposes

  • Plans, organizes, arranges and follows up on effective and timely staff orientation, training and post-secondary education opportunities

  • Plans and implements staff/teacher meetings every month

  • Maintains current staff development files (CPR/FA, CCL requirements, criminal history, fingerprints, training, etc.) through systematic staff notification and monthly tracking

  • Assists in collecting data for the annual Community Assessment

  • Remains up to date on current research and child development issues

  • Assists in writing all funding requests and grant proposals as requested

  • Is an active member of the EHS Management Team

  • Analyzes child data that is disaggregated to ensure high quality services for children

  • Assists in the recruitment and enrollment of families as needed
