EARLY HEAD START CENTER-BASED LEAD TEACHER

(Early Childhood Program Specialist 3)

SALARY: $3,910/month ($46,920 annually) to start

LOCATION: Multiple Locations in Snohomish County

DESCRIPTION:

The Early Head Start Lead Teacher implements a developmentally appropriate curriculum for a group of birth to three-years old children in an Early Head Start classroom, and provides quality early childhood experiences.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Adherence to all Active Safety & Supervision procedures and policies, ensuring that no child is ever left alone or unsupervised

  • Maintain staff-to-child ratios within performance standards; assist other EHS or HS classrooms in ensuring adequate staff coverage at all times

  • Acts as the Primary Caregiver to provide daily routine care for children birth to age three including, diapering, feeding, and safe sleep practices

  • Develop and implement lesson plans based on Head Start Performance Standards, CLASS, and established EHS Classroom Based curriculum

  • Responsible for directing the work of the [EHS Assistant Teacher/Teacher Aides] in their classroom

  • Obtain and maintain Inter Rater Reliability using Teaching Strategies Gold by the first checkpoint

  • Participate in family style meal service. Eat nutritionally prepared meals with the children as a curriculum activity, modeling good nutrition and proper social skills

  • Support children and families in social emotional development using the Pyramid Model Framework

  • Must be able to walk or run quickly, kneel or sit on the floor, lift approximately 50 pounds, sit in a child's size chair, and move quickly from multiple positions and levels

  • Ability to perform regular sanitation/cleaning of the classroom that may require the use of a broom, carpet sweeper, mop, vacuum, and the use of cleaning products

  • Maintain each child¿s record by completing Teaching Strategies Gold observations. Complete checkpoints on schedule in TS Gold as assigned by the program

  • Communicate concerns about a child¿s special needs to appropriate contact and participate in the referral process

  • All employees are mandated to report suspected child abuse and neglect and must notify appropriate associates of any suspected abuse, unsafe conditions, needed repairs, complaints, accidents or injuries immediately

  • Attend and participate in team, site, and agency required meetings, and trainings

  • Maintain compliance with Head Start program standards and procedures

  • Work with families to ensure consistent child attendance

  • Perform daily data entry into our child file databases

  • Complete parent/teacher conferences and home visits to ensure that families are included in planning and goal setting

  • Work as a team with parent, Health Assistant, and Registered Dietician to ensure enrolled children meet health and nutrition standards as set by the Head Start Performance Standards

  • Work with families to provide community resources and follow up to provide any support families may need in meeting their goals

  • Works with families and other program areas to support transitions to other early learning programs

  • Provide opportunities to actively encourage parents¿ participation in the child¿s education and development through parent engagement, parents as partners¿ activities, volunteer in-kind hours and parent meetings

  • Ability to problem-solve and handle sensitive information and difficult situations tactfully and confidentially.

  • Must be knowledgeable of and work in accordance with Head Start/ECEAP Performance Standards, department and College policies and regulations, and negotiated agreements

  • Must be able to use a computer for written communication, data entry, spreadsheet applications, and report creation.

  • Must be able to respond to and initiate communication with college/program employees, staff of other institutions, outside agencies, enrolled families, and the general public

  • Must be able to exhibit cultural humility when working with staff and families from diverse racial, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds

  • Must be able to prioritize unplanned but required duties with ongoing confirmed deadlines. Must be flexible and able to negotiate priorities according to program needs while considering rules and process requirements

  • Must consistently adhere to an established work schedule and maintain a 95% attendance rate

  • Current Food Worker Card and Pediatric CPR/1st Aid

  • Must possess a valid Washington State Driver¿s License and personal automobile insurance

  • Must be able to work under stressful situations and manage stress appropriately

  • Must be able to accomplish repetitive tasks while maintaining a high level of accuracy

  • Must be able to work independently and exercise appropriate judgment

  • Ability to perform regular sanitation/cleaning of the classroom that may require the use of a broom, carpet sweeper, mop, vacuum, and the use of cleaning products

  • Must be able to transport self to home visits and off-site trainings and meetings

  • Must be able to climb stairs and walk over uneven surfaces, walk or run quickly, kneel or sit on the floor, lift approximately 40 pounds (only on an emergency, as-needed basis), sit in a child's size chair, and move quickly from multiple positions and levels

  • Required vaccines: TDap, MMR, Hep B series

  • Must show a negative TB Test and obtain a health provider statement showing free of communicable diseases

  • Cleared Portable Background Check through DCYF

This is a classified position reporting to the Education Site Manager.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or comparable credential, and

  • have been trained OR have additional equivalent coursework in early childhood development with a focus on infant and toddler development

  • Two years of paid work experience in an infant/toddler classroom

PHYSICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is performed in an an early learning environment, and onsite/in-person. The ability to sit, bend, stoop, walk and generally move around the classroom and over uneven surfaces is required. Position will be responsible for sanitizing classroom furniture and materials, changing diapers, and care and feeding of infants. This position involves some repetitive movement like keyboarding. Excellent communication skills are essential. This includes the ability to speak clearly and fully comprehend written and spoken English and will include communication with people for whom English is not their first language. WORK SCHEDULE:

40 hours per week, Monday - Friday

COMPENSATION:

Salary range 42. Beginning salary is $3,910/month. Progressive increases to $4,740 per month, plus a full state benefits package, which includes tuition waivers for college classes, medical, dental, retirement options and more. Vacation and leave package includes 12 sick days per year, 11 scheduled holidays, 1 personal holiday, 3 personal leave days, and 13.99 vacation days per year (incremental increases to 24 vacation days per year).

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
