JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION: EARLY CHILDHOOD SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER
JOB GOAL: To facilitate student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills through implementing district approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; addressing specific educational needs of individual students by creating a flexible, safe and optimal learning environment; and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Creates and implements IEPs and works closely with the related service personnel.
Guides student behavior through implementing the school's discipline policy while upholding high expectations.
Participates in daily classroom instruction collaboratively by co-teaching with Preschool teachers
Builds positive, collaborative relationships with Preschool staff to ensure the highest level of instructional opportunities for students.
Understands basic classroom management; with strategies for individual behavior management, crisis prevention, intervention, de-escalation techniques, and the balance between classroom management with academic teaching strategies.
Develops short and long-range plans consistent with curriculum goals, learners' diversity, and learning theory.
Maintains excellent communication with parents.
Provides an exceptional level of quality care to children at all times, including assisting with toileting and self-care goals while demonstrating respect and value towards them as individuals.
Understands issues in definition and identification procedures for individuals with disabilities, including those individuals from diverse backgrounds.
Understands characteristics of individuals with disabilities across the age range of 3-5, including levels of severity, multiple disabilities and their influence on development, behavior and learning.
Knowledgeable about the impact of language disorders, processing deficits, intellectual abilities, behavioral/emotional/social disorders, and physical (including sensory) disabilities on learning and behavior.
Assess student progress through documentation; completes paperwork related to a student; and attends professional development as needed.
Demonstrates strong leadership capabilities within and outside of the classroom.
Constructs a positive relationship between the program, student, and parent.
Participates in faculty meetings and committees.
Ensures that student conduct and attendance conforms with the school standards and school district discipline policies.
Utilizes current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiates instruction based upon student learning styles.
Utilizes knowledge of instructional goals and objectives for Early Childhood Special Education.
Utilizes knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
Applies knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
Obtains knowledge of computer network systems and software applications as needed.
Organizes and coordinates work.
Engages in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth
Establishes and maintains cooperative relations with others.
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the principal/assistant principal and district office administrators as designated by the superintendent.
Adheres to a professional code of ethics which includes confidentiality of school related matters and loyalty to the school district.

Qualifications
Valid and appropriate Illinois licensure
Early Childhood Education endorsement and Early Childhood Special Education approval required.
Complete required professional development to retain certification.
Successful completion of fingerprint based criminal background check (IL State Police and FBI), sex offender and violent youth offender screening, and employment physical.

Physical Requirements Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, operate a computer, hand-held learning devices and other office equipment, reach with hands and arms, and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
