Job Title: Early Childhood - Teacher of Early Childhood Special Education

JOB CHARACTERISTICS:
To design and implement a curriculum for early childhood special education students that will facilitate skill acquisition in cognitive, adaptive, social-emotional, communication and motor areas.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Provide children with a variety of special needs, ages birth-to-five, with an activity-based classroom experience.
Facilitate development of expressive and receptive language skills through individual and whole class activi ties , with support from the Speech Language Pathologist.
Organize the class room to prov ide a vari ety of activities appro pria te to both developmental and chronological levels of the students.
Structure peer interactions to provide opportunities for social/emotional development.
Act as case manager for assigned stu dent s, coll aborating with a vari ety of spec ial ists and comm unity agencies.
Complete curriculum-based assessments within EI/ECSE timeline.
Maintain data keeping system to monitor and record stud ent progress in meeting IFSP goals and objectives.
Complete all IFSP pap erwork r equi rements within the EI/ECSE program timeline(s).
Help train instructional assistants, student assistants, and volunteers.
Attend meetings as assigned.
Plan and implement behavior management programs.
Maintain a system of open c omm unication with parents and i nvo lve parents in planning and delivery of services.
Maintain good relationships with staff and stud ents .
Assist with lifting and positioning of students.
Complete paperwork requirements of the job using approved forms (including Medicaid billing) in an accurate and timely manner.
Maintain confidentiality of student records and of ESD staff and complies with state and federal regulations regarding privacy.
Maintain regular attendance in order to preserve the continuity of service delivery for the program.
Meet standards for competent and ethical perf ormance as outlined in OAR 584-20-005-035.
Perform duties in a manner reasonably expected and genera lly recognized by the profession.
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Supervisor, Director of Special Education, and Superintendent.

QUALIFICATIONS

Understanding of early child development, including the interrelated aspects of co gni tive, lang uag e and social development.
Experience in Early Intervention and/or Early Childhood Special Education.
Basic understanding of learning theory and behavior management.
Ability to deal with staff, students, and the public in an effective manner and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees.
Valid Oregon driver's license, appropriate automobile insurance and must provide own transportation.
Ability to respect confidential information.
Hold a current first aid card.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:
Bachelor's Degree in appropriate field required.
Valid Oregon teaching certificate In Early Childhood Special Education

WORKING CONDITIONS:
The employee may work in regular or special education setting and/or in community settings with students in small or large groups or 1-to-1 and may be required to travel on the job.

The employee may work beyond an eight-hour day or a five-day work week attending meetings, conferences, and school activities. The employee needs to be competent in conflict resolution.

The employee must be able to communicate effectively in confrontational and emotional situations involving staff, students, parents, and patrons. Confidentiality is a top priority for the persons in this position.

The employee at times works under varied workloads and inflexible deadlines. Problems may arise which require immediate attention setting up conflicting priorities. Sound judgment is required to effectively prioritize these demands.

Supervision and instructional responsibilities require the employee to be able to stand up to 30 consecutive minutes and to move rapidly to intervene in situations where a student's safety is being jeopardized. Outdoor supervision may be required during inclement weather.

The employee must be able to lift materials, boxes or equipment weighing up to 30 pounds.

The emp loyee may need to participate with others in lifting/moving equipment weighing up to 40 pounds.

The employee needs to be able to participate with one other employee in lifting students weighing up to 80 pounds, if the student's protocol permits. All lifting and transferring of students should be done in accordance with approved protocols.

The employee may come into contact with biohazards such as human waste, saliva, and blood, and should take appropriate protective precautions. The employee may be required to provide intimate hygiene care to students and may be required to accompany the student into restrooms and locker rooms.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Terms of Employment: 191 Day
Union: South Coast ESD Education Association
Rate: $47,371 - $87,518 /yr DOE

First consideration for this position will be given to properly licensed members of the collective bargaining unit.

A fingerprint-based criminal history investigation will be required.
