Job Title: Early Childhood - BEHAVIOR CONSULTANT

JOB CHARACTERISTICS:

To assist staff with behavior intervention strategies and plans to enhance their capacity to respond effectively and appropriately to the educational needs of students with social adjustment and behavioral problems related to disabilities such as communication disorder, developmental delay, intellectual disability, Autism, etc.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Utilizes active listening skills and creates a trusting relationship with all contacts.
Writes, in conjunction with others, positive behavior intervention plans that utilize the abc format and facilitates the implementation and daily monitoring of program wide behavior intervention systems.
Provides consultation services TO PROGRAM staff regarding social adjustment and behavioral problems of assigned students.
Provides consultation services to program sites in the development and implementation of positive intervention plans which may include training and support in affective education, behavior intervention strategies, teacher strategies, and/or home intervention plans.
Provides effective consultation to program and agency staff in the planning and development of appropriate positive behavior intervention plans and instructional strategies.
Participates in the administration of behavior and/or adaptive rating scales or other assigned assessment items and makes observations as directed to assist with the evaluation of the student's behavior.
Participates in student IEP/IFSP meetings, interdisciplinary staff meetings and trainings to provide information and consultation to staff regarding positive behavior plans and practices.
Provides inservice trainings on positive behavior interventions throughout the year.
Assists with inservice training for program personnel as directed.
Acts as liaison between the esd, constituent districts, and community agencies as appropriate.
Makes appropriate suggestions for materials to be purchased by the program
Helps in the initiation of remediation: may be in the form of written report, teacher training, observation and data, or any other means for providing services.
Is willing to become knowledgeable of various discipline systems used in the servicing area, their strengths and weaknesses.
Maintains confidentiality of student records and of esd staff, and complies with state and federal regulations regarding privacy.
Maintains regular attendance in order to preserve the continuity of service delivery for the program.
participates as a member of the behavior team and works together to meet the needs of students
Maintains the program behavior data base, creates needed reports
Meets standards for competent and ethical performance as outlined in OAR 584-20-005-035.
Adheres to safety standards.
Performs the duties of the Mandatory Reporters according to ORS 419B.005-ORS 419B.045.
Will adhere to the established ESD mission and values.
Will promote and support the ESD through positive communication.
Will complete and utilize the OIS system.
Actively participate in home district building meetings and activities.
Follow home district policies and procedures.
Performs duties in a manner reasonably expected and generally recognized by "best practices" of the profession.
Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Program Administrator, Director of Adaptive Life Skills Program and Superintendent.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Direct experience with students who have social, emotional, or behavioral problems.
Experience writing positive behavior intervention plans and Functional Assessments
Demonstrates the ability to effectively communicate the information into and from evaluation reports to teachers, parents, and social agencies.
Demonstrates the ability to work harmoniously with students, agencies, school district personnel, parents, and other staff members.
Must have a valid Oregon driver's license, automobile insurance and furnish own transportation.
Holds a current first aid card.
Works harmoniously with others, has a tactful and professional approach with staff, teachers, families and other agencies.
Respects confidential information.

EDUCATION/LICENSURE:

1.Licensed as a special education teacher or bachelor's Degree in a related field with ability to obtain teaching license

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The employee may work beyond an eight-hour day or a five-day work week attending meetings, conferences, and school activities. the employee needs to be competent in conflict resolution. The employee must be able to communicate effectively in confrontational and emotional situations involving staff, students, parents and patrons. Confidentiality is a top priority for the persons in this position.

The employee at times works under varied workloads and inflexible deadlines. Problems may arise which require immediate attention setting up conflicting priorities. Sound judgment is required to effectively prioritize these demands.

The employee must be able to lift materials, boxes or equipment weighing up to 30 pounds. The employee may need to participate with others in lifting /moving equipment weighing up to 40 pounds.

The employee may come into contact with biohazards such as human waste, saliva, or blood, and should take appropriate protective precautions.

Rate: $47,371 - $87,518

Location: Coos and Curry Counties

A fingerprint-based criminal history investigation will be required.
