JOB TITLE: Early Childhood Special Education Teacher

JOB SUMMARY: The early childhood preschool teacher will provide direct individual and group instruction to eligible special education preschool children. This position requires the ability to plan and provide an individualized developmentally appropriate program for each student in this special education classroom.

MINIMAL QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor's degree.

• Michigan teaching certificate with an endorsement in at least one area of special education.

• Early Childhood (ZA) endorsement.

• Meet requirements of highly qualified special education teacher.

• Two years teaching experience with at least one year in special education.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (May include but not be limited to):

• Program effectively for preschoolers with a variety of special needs.

• Complete special education paperwork REED/MET/IEP and other reporting requirements in an accurate and timely manner.

• Administer assessments to special needs preschoolers, develop appropriate evaluation reports, and utilize results to develop appropriate goals for individual educational programming.

• Use technology in preparation of professional materials and to assist students.

• Train and work effectively with paraprofessional.

• Collaborate and work effectively with support staff.

• Communicate effectively with parents.

• Have an understanding/knowledge of various disabilities and child development.

• Plan developmentally appropriate activities that encompass all areas of development.

• Recognize individual student needs and plan/implement effective programming to meet those needs.

• Plan and implement behavior management strategies.

• Provide direct individual and group instruction to eligible special education preschool children based on developmentally appropriate practice.

• Effectively work with parents and professionals to transition students from ECP

• to appropriate programs.
