The Gordon School is a racially diverse nursery through eighth-grade all-gender independent school in East Providence, RI. The curriculum is rooted in multicultural practice and social justice, with an emphasis on developing intellectual leadership, active imagination, and a child's naturally inquisitive nature. Students are challenged and inspired to be active workers toward their own education, and teachers strive to develop meaningful relationships with each child and family.
We are seeking a full-time teaching associate who will co-teach 3-6-year-olds and will be responsible for integrating a Spanish language curriculum with a play-based and developmentally appropriate approach. This is a 10-month full-time position working with our youngest students during specified times of the week. Teaching Spanish in an integrated model requires near native fluency in the language. This is an exciting opportunity to instruct our youngest learners in Spanish and to partner closely with Early Childhood educators and other members of the Spanish department.
The ideal candidate will have an understanding of early childhood pedagogy and possess a willingness to partner with colleagues and parents to ensure the social, emotional, and academic well-being of students.

Prerequisites for the position
Must be a native or fluent Spanish speaker and highly motivated to use the language exclusively in an immersion setting with preschool students
Possess an undergraduate degree and have experience working in an Early Childhood setting
Have a working knowledge of current educational practices and an understanding of a Spanish language curriculum that supports a developmentally appropriate, process-oriented approach
Duties and expectations
as a Spanish integration teacher
Facilitate small group learning opportunities in Spanish to 3-6-year-olds using age-appropriate, play-based activities centered on immersing students in the Spanish language
Ability and willingness to teach and speak in the target language for the majority of instructional time
Work closely with Early Childhood classroom teachers to co-teach and integrate Spanish into the classroom's curriculum
Write curriculum summary and comments for student progress reporting twice a year

Report to the Early Childhood Director
Assist educators with classroom routines, such as meeting times, meals, and outdoor play
Set and monitor the tone of the classroom to ensure an environment that exhibits respect for classmates, teachers, and the school as a whole
Promote child-centered learning opportunities that celebrate our diverse student population
Maintain positive relationships with families, students, and colleagues
Promote student involvement and participation in all aspects of the program
Engage in the school's formal teacher evaluation process and yearly goal-setting
Engage in ongoing professional development, especially related to growth as a
multicultural practitioner
Attend and participate in team, divisional, and all-school meetings
Perform other duties as assigned
