With the guidance of Lead Teacher, be responsible for providing a developmentally appropriate and culturally relevant environment and curriculum to meet the needs of toddlers and pre-school age children enrolled at the center.

  • Direct the work of Early Childhood Specialist 1s and volunteers as appropriate.

  • Work closely with the parents of children enrolled at the center.

  • Complete enrollments and maintain appropriate records of curriculum, classroom staff meetings, parent communication and documentation activities required to meet licensing standards.

  • Guide and support children's learning in an early childhood program.

  • Perform classroom work such as preparing materials and recording enrollment.

  • Monitor activities such as nap time, free time, field trips, snacks, lunches, transitions between activities.

  • Organize materials used by children for their projects and activities.

  • Interact positively with children and their families.

  • Know and follow WAC's regarding Licensing Requirements for Child Day Care Centers Per WAC 388-150-180, be of good character and demonstrate the understanding, ability, personality, emotional stability, and physical health suited to meet the cultural, emotional, mental, physical and social needs of the child in care.

  • Know and follow the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) Accreditation Criteria and Code of Ethical Conduct; which includes adhering to the following Statement of Commitment that represents the Core Values , Principles and Ideals which are the Code sets forth as a framework of professional responsibilities in four areas of professional relationships: (1) with children, (2) with families, (3) among colleagues, and (4) with the community and society.

  • Hold current Pediatric CPR/First Aid card, Bloodborne Pathogens Training, Food Handler's Permit, STARS registry and annual training as required by licensing, TB test taken in the last 12 months.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • One year of experience in an early childhood program AND 30 quarter credit hours in early childhood education, education, or special education with a relevant field-based experience.

  • Ability to stay in compliance with all licensing and NAEYC accreditation requirements.

  • Ability to exercise sensitivity in dealing with individuals of diverse socio-economic backgrounds, cognitive and physical abilities as well as with individuals of diverse cultural ethnic backgrounds.

  • Valid CPR/First Aid card, Bloodborne Pathogens Training, Food Handler's Permit, proof of MMR vaccine, or willingness to acquire the certifications upon acceptance of the position.

  • Ability to pass a Washington DCYF Criminal History and Background Inquiry and provide a record of tuberculin skin tests results.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • An Associate or higher degree in Early Childhood Education or an associated discipline with the equivalent of 30 college quarter hours in early childhood education, education, or special education.

  • Knowledge of family support practices, multicultural competence, and experience working with a diverse population.

  • Special expertise and experience in Creative Curriculum, Early Achievers Framework, social emotional learning, nature education, art, music or movement.

  • Competence using computers and digital photography. Commitment to reflective practice and further professional development.

Physical Demands

Work Hours:

Part time with benefits. Schedule is 37.5 hours per week, 9.5 months per year, typically mid-September through mid-June. Part time work during summer quarter may be available.
