This is a full-time, non-exempt, ten-month support staff position responsible to the dean, professional and technical programs and the director, Family Learning Center. The Family Learning Center is an Early Childhood Development Laboratory School, which exists to provide quality care for young children and a quality learning experience for College students preparing for careers in Early Childhood. Responsibilities include:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and DUTIES
Prepare and implement an early childhood education curriculum for children ages six weeks through five years of age. Detailed lesson plans must be completed weekly for the appropriate classroom.
Maintain developmental records, portfolios, etc. for children to ensure their needs are being met. The case records should have completed forms, narratives, and reports to provide an accurate picture of each child.
Plan and prepare a classroom environment that promotes the cultural variety found in our society.
Promote and demonstrate appropriate respect for cultural diversity among coworkers, College students, and all work-related contacts.
Maintain the arrangement, appearance, dcor, and learning environment in accordance with appropriate standards. Adherence to the Center's dress code is an integral part of this standard.
Interact and maintain positive professional relationships with College staff, students, parents and children.
Model best practices and developmentally appropriate activities for children in each classroom to provide an engaging and beneficial field experience for College students who are assigned observation time at the Laboratory School.
Maintain and enhance knowledge and skills in early childhood education through activities including workshops and/or courses and membership in professional organizations.
Attend work regularly in accordance with the College and Center policy.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Must know and consistently meet Texas Minimum Standards for Licensed Child Care Centers established by the Texas Department of Health and Human Services Child Care Licensing Division.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
Ability to perform activities including but not limited to sitting, standing, walking, lifting and carrying as required by a childcare facility. Must be able to repeatedly lift up to 50 pounds each workday.
One year full-time teaching experience as a teacher of young children
Work experience at a licensed childcare center
May have contact in person, by email, or by phone with staff, students, and the general public.
Must exhibit a sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of staff and students and to staff and students with disabilities.
Perform other duties as assigned.
