Behavior Interventionist works under the direct supervision of the
building principal.
Job Description
The Behavior Interventionist should have a deep knowledge of research/evidence based practices for social emotional and behavioral skill development. The Interventionist should have an understanding of the Early Childhood Environment and Trauma Informed Practices and have experience with emotional regulation strategies. He/She must demonstrate positive interpersonal skills, cooperative teamwork, excellent communication skills and be fact based and solution oriented in decision making. The Interventionist delivers targeted behavior intervention services to students with lagging social-emotional skills and those who struggle with appropriate behaviors.
Essential Job Functions
Communication and Collaboration
Collaborate with classroom teachers, school counselor and administration regarding student progress and behavioral needs
Coach teachers on appropriate behavioral Tier I and II strategies and maintain communication throughout implementation
Build relationships with individual families and maintain positive rapport
Use direct and honest communication with families in order to provide support and guide them through interventions, student progress and possible referrals
Engage parents in the intervention process and empower them by providing skills and techniques to support the positive behavior development of their child
Responsive Services
Deliver focused Tier III social, emotional, and/or behavioral intervention through one-on-one and small group instruction
Model and teach regulation skills and co-regulate with students when needed
Connect families with resources inside and outside of the school to meet basic needs and put other supports in place
Utilize Second Step and Conscious Discipline to deliver SEL instruction
Apply Trauma Informed Practices when students are dysregulated
Student Support
Assist in the identification of student needs and work with the School Leadership Team to determine levels of support
Assist in the planning and implementation of student-specific interventions for social,
emotional and/or behavior skill development
Professional Responsibilities
Implement the district's identified behavior intervention program with fidelity
Participate in SIT meetings to guide the development of Tier III behavior interventions and student support plans
Document interventions and support given to individual students, track data to determine progress over time
Ongoing collaboration with district staff and counselors including monthly meetings and other opportunities as they arise
Provide transition support for K-2 students as needed
Assist in the planning and delivery of staff development in the areas of SEL and Trauma
Make provisions for being available to students and parents for education-related
purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under
reasonable terms
Maintain a variety of confidential and non-confidential files and records for the purpose of providing up-to-date information and/or historical reference
Perform other duties as assigned
