SUMMARY: Reporting to the Director of Early Childhood Programs and under the supervision of the Co-Master Teachers, plans and implements developmentally appropriate activities designed to promote social, emotional, cognitive, physical and self-help growth in children aged 2 to 6 years; communicates with parents and colleagues and demonstrates a professional demeanor.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. All duties are performed under the supervision of the Co-Master Teachers.
While Associate Teachers receive training in performing the many of the duties of Master Teachers, it is not intended that the Associate Teacher position will automatically lead to a Master Teacher position. Other duties may be assigned.
Plan and implement curriculum for individual, small and large group activities, both indoors and outside, that promote learning in the areas of social-emotional, cognitive, physical and self-help development and that motivate enthusiasm of children for active participation in the learning process.
Under the guidance of the Master Teachers, communicate verbally with children, and verbally and in written form with parents, administrators, and colleagues about curriculum, children, and child development issues and maintain a sensitive, cooperative and flexible demeanor in interactions with others.
Demonstrate professionalism through reliability, punctuality, participation in meetings and staff development opportunities, as well as personal appearance and self-care, and maintains personal integrity and a respectful attitude in professional relationship.
Keep current in contemporary pedagogical thinking, strategies and techniques by regularly reading professional journals and attendance at professional conferences, workshops and courses.
Maintain a high level of technological proficiency and consistently integrate meaningful and appropriate use of technology within the curriculum; maintain and update classroom communication platform daily and create and manage student digital portfolios.
Maintain and update curriculum maps in conjunction with grade level teams.
Assist in coordinating efforts of team members, interns, student teachers and other adults in the classroom.
Provide for the physical safety of children through anticipation and removal of hazards, visual observation of children active or at rest, and by appropriate response to injuries.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Minimum requirements include a valid California Child Development Associate Teacher Permit and training and experience in early childhood classrooms. Bachelor's degree preferred.
BEHAVIORAL SKILLS: Demonstrate personal integrity, friendliness, patience, fairness, openness, non-defensiveness, sensitivity, flexibility, and enthusiasm.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret written documents, professional literature and material pertinent to child development and education; ability to write reports, child evaluations from a developmental perspective, curricular plans, and letters to parents and others; ability to verbally present information and respond to children, parents, colleagues, and administrators in areas of early childhood curriculum and child development, as well as speak and write from a child-specific perspective.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide using whole numbers, fractions and decimals; create and interpret graphs; compute ratio and percent and use a calculator.
TECHNICAL SKILLS: Ability to use simple tools and machines, such as copiers, laminators, and telephones; ability to use computer for word processing to write reports, compose letters, create documents, prepare and send messages on Microsoft Outlook and access the Internet.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and apply common sense in dealing with every day and emergency situations; ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram and schedule form.
