EXAMINATION PROCESS:
1.Training and Experience Evaluation
Applications will be screened for best qualified applicants to compete in the competitive examination process.
2.Structured Oral Interview
The Structured Oral Interview will be before a panel and contain questions that assess technical knowledge, experience, and one's general fitness for successful performance in the position.
A total score will be computed using weighted scores on all testing components. Applicants must receive a passing score on the oral examination to be placed on the year-long eligibility list. The top 3 ranks (scores) on the eligibility list are eligible for the hiring interview for each vacancy in this classification within the life of the list.
BASIC POSITION FUNCTION
Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, utilizing the
ConejoValley Neighborhood for Learning (NfL) philosophy and standards, assist in the classroom preparation and care of children from infants to 5 years old in a manner which promotes child's trust, security, linguistic, physical, social-emotional, and self expressive learning and development in a safe and well supervised manner.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS BETWEEN RELATED CLASSES
Positions in this class are established to assist employees in classes of Early Care Teacher, Early Care Assistant Teachers and other Early Care staff, in providing infant care services and classroom set-up preparation. Incumbents perform tasks within a limited number of standardized procedures.The class of Early Care Assistant Teacher assists in providing infant, toddler and/or preschool care services by performing work tasks with initiative and independent judgment within a limited scope of standardized procedures. In comparison, the class of Early Care Teacher functions with greater independence and performs duties that are of greater complexity, requiring significant breadth of knowledge in executing position functions.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist in the operation of an early care program including play, group activities and individual choice.
Assist in guiding children in the appropriate use of supplies, materials and equipment.
Help prepare and maintain classroom and materials.
Utilizing the Desired Results System, help the teacher and assistant teacher in collecting anecdotal observations, filing the anecdotal records in student portfolios and assisting in other basic record keeping activities.
Perform operational activities incidental to the operation of the program such as, preparation of snacks and clean up and general housekeeping activities; diapering and toileting as needed
Attend staff meetings, parent meetings, and pre and in-services trainings
OTHER DUTIES:
Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM ENTRANCE QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience
High School diploma or an equivalent; andcompletion of six (6) postsecondary semester or equivalent quarter units in Child Development of Early Childhood Education highly desirable.
Some experience working with infants, toddlers, and/or preschool children.
Alternate variations of education/experience may be considered by Personnel Commission staff as acceptable to qualify for participation int he examination process resulting in an eligibility list. When appropriate additional work experience beyond the minimum requirement may be supplemented for required minimum education requirements.
License / Certifications / Special Requirements
Must be 18 years of age or above
Basic first aid including CPR certification shall be obtained for permanency in this classification (within 6 months of employment)
