Position Summary & Responsibilities
Position Summary: This position is assigned to the Enforcement, Apprehension and Investigation (EAI) Unit at the Norton Correctional Facility. All persons interested in this position regardless of rank must submit an application for interview. This position performs highly specialized technical work providing criminal investigation and intelligence collection duties for the Kansas Department of Corrections under the direction of the Special Agent Supervisor of the Enforcement, Apprehension and Investigation (EAI) Unit.
Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following: Uses legally accepted methods to collect, evaluate and disseminate intelligence information acquired from staff, inmates and concerned citizens. Investigates incidents which may include major infractions of facility policy, department regulation or state law to include major crimes. Conducts interviews with victims, witnesses and suspects to obtain relevant case information. Confers with prosecutors for preparation and presentation of evidence in courts of law and other legal proceedings. This position serves a critical role in the overall safety and security of operations of the facility
Qualifications
Education: HS Diploma or GED
Licensing & Certification: Valid Drivers License
Minimum Qualifications: Must meet all minimum qualifications and necessary special requirements for CO I A; be at least 21 years of age at time of appointment; have two years of relevant experience in the field of corrections or in the detention of convicted offenders; and have successfully completed the Corrections Officer Training Program (COTP). At the discretion of the agency, relevant college coursework or completion of corrections officer training in another jurisdiction may be substituted for some or all the required COTP.
Preferred Qualifications: Three (3) years' experience in corrections or detention work. Previous work experience in investigations and/or law enforcement. AA or AS degree (or 60 credit hours) in criminal justice or related field.
