Position Duties and Responsibilities

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Manager of International Student Affairs provides broad support for the College's visa students, recent immigrants and refugee students. This position is responsible for ensuring compliance with visa regulations and ensuring they are implemented and adhered to district wide. This position oversees the provision of services for international students and maintains the SEVIS database for STLCC's international student population. The position will also lead efforts in recruiting international students and developing partnerships with organizations and community partners. This position reports to the Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs.

PRIMARY DUTIES PERFORMED:

  • Serve as the Principal Designated School Official (PDSO) as authorized by the Department of Homeland Security for oversight of federal database/ SEVIS operations as they relate to the College's PDSO operations, and student related transactions.

  • Oversee F-1 and other visa status student files within SEVIS to ensure that all information is up to date and in compliance with immigration regulations.

  • Keep abreast of current federal immigration rules and regulations and implement district-wide to maintain compliance.

  • Lead the creation of database systems for administrative and international student records.

  • Work with Admissions and Enrollment Services Offices to both enhance efficient and accurate processing of international and immigrant student applications and facilitate student enrollment and registration.

  • Research, evaluate, and recommend international recruitment activities and outreach that may include travel, mailings, participation in recruitment visits, educational fairs, and embassy and consulate meetings.

  • Develop and report success outcomes for international students' programs participation.

  • Manage and facilitate workshops, conferences, seminars, and professional development related to international student success, development and educational globalization district-wide.

  • Collaborate with the International Student Clubs.

  • Work in collaboration with Academic Affairs and Student Affairs to facilitate programs and support services to enhance the retention and persistence through graduation for international students.

  • Collaborate with English as a Second Language program (ESL).

  • Serve as a student advocate for the enhancement of student learning, college awareness of diverse cultures, and student development.

  • Work collaboratively with stakeholders and all campus units to achieve the goals and objectives for international student program.

  • Develop strategic plan, goals, recruitment plan and recommendations for international program activities in collaboration with college stakeholders.

  • Collaborate with Campus Life to coordinate international student orientation sessions that help guide international students through a smooth transition in their college experience.

  • Acts as liaison between the College and its international program partners; maintains open communication with all learners, faculty, and instructors; and handles reported concerns and issues.

  • Explores opportunities for new international program partnerships and recommends policies and procedures to manage risk and liability in international students programs.

  • Evaluate application materials and recommends admission decisions consistent with institutional policies and practices.

  • Collaborate with The Registrar's office and Enrollment Operations with International students' transcripts evaluation.

  • Supervise staff.

  • Serve as Co-Chair for the International Student Advisory Committee.

  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Master's degree in Education, Student Development/Affairs, Psychology, Counseling, Sociology or a closely related field/discipline.

Minimum of three (3) years of experience in international enrollment management and services with experience in recruitment and partnership development.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of protocols and customs of different countries and cultures.

Minimum of two years of supervisory experience preferred.

Bilingual skills preferred.
