The Durable Medical Equipment (DME) Case Management Supervisor is responsible for leading the DME department in the coordination of tasks and communication necessary to assist case management and therapy staff in ordering durable medical/respiratory equipment and transportation for patients. DME staff provides updates and information to the Shepherd treatment teams about the progress of DME/respiratory orders on a routine basis. The DME Supervisor works with the DME staff to ensure coordination of tasks necessary to assist case management and therapy staff in ordering durable medical/respiratory equipment for patients. This position leads the DME Department as it serves as a link between Shepherd and the external community, communicating patient needs to suppliers and external case managers, and supplying updates and information about the progress of DME/respiratory orders on a routine basis. The DME Supervisor leads the DME department staff as they interact with patients and their families as part of their recovery at Shepherd Center.
This position works in conjunction with the Director of Case Management (DCM) to assist with the oversight of DME department to include staffing schedules, productivity standards, employee competency documentation, Touchpoints performance appraisals, performance improvement programs, staff education and special projects as assigned.
This position also provides leadership, develops, and standardizes the provision of durable medical equipment in conjunction with case management operations. This will support the provision of care coordination, and discharge/transition planning across all programs. While conducting this oversight, this position focuses on management of the fiscal aspects of health care management and each patient's benefits coverage for durable medical needs. Will support advocacy for patients and their families by promoting and supporting the high standards of patient care, participating in program evaluation and development and other designated department related tasks as identified. Collaborates with inter and intradepartmental supervisory staff to ensure quality patient care, and functions within the scope of Shepherd Center's philosophy, policies, and procedures. Promote and facilitate a multidisciplinary approach to coordinate care and plan operations among disciplines. Serves as a link between Shepherd and the external community, communicating patient needs to suppliers and external case managers, and supplying updates and information about the progress of DME/respiratory orders on a routine basis. The DME staff interacts with patients, as applicable to patient needs, as part of their recovery at Shepherd Center. Ensure adherence to standards of care consistent with current professional standards and consistent with Shepherd's Mission, Vision and Values. Serves as a DME resource and benefit person of expertise within the CM department, Shepherd Center, and the community.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Assists patients and families with identifying community resources if funding is limited.
Coordinates with internal/external case managers and team staff along with the patient's chosen supplier concerning DME.
Encourage patients to identify a community primary care physician for follow up needs concerning future DME.
Works with the Seating Clinic and Center for Assistive Technologies department.
Meets with suppliers, patient/family, patient assigned team and internal/external case managers to communicate progress of DME.
Acts as a patient advocate by providing supportive information needed for the appeal of denials of equipment when made by the insurance carrier.
Maintains current knowledge and understanding of DME, DME benefits and benefit administration.
Coordinates DME in-service education for therapists and case managers.
Re-establishes and Chairs the DME committee.
Facilitate communications with suppliers when there are expressions of dissatisfaction, service expectations not being met, conflicts concerning funding, and problems processing DME requests between Shepherd staff and internal/external Case Managers.
Attends team meetings, therapist floor meetings and case management meetings to advise updates of changes or updates concerning DME.
Creates a plan for the onboarding of new staff.
Defines DME documentation guidelines.
Audit DME documentation.
Coordinates DME staff coverage when staff are out of the Center.
Assist with difficult DME issues as needed.
Providing in the moment coaching to DME staff.
Support DME in the management of escalated issues of patients and families.
Acts as a resource to clinical staff for DME concerns or questions.
Supports customer service issues from internal and external sources.
Special projects, initiatives, and other job duties as assigned.
Coordinate communication and appointment schedule for Atlanta Regional Commission and Brain and Spinal Trust Fund.
Coordinate communication, applications and manage funds for Andee's Army
Track, coordinate requests, manage invoices to pay bills for PEF, PAF, Interpreters, Transportation, Apothecary and ATC.
Other duties as assigned.
