Minimum Qualifications & Abilities:

  • Bachelor's Degree, including all courses necessary to meet credential requirements.

  • Valid California teaching credential authorizing service in grade levels and areas assigned.

  • Prior teaching experience with English Language Learners preferred

  • Must have knowledge of the academic content and performance standards adopted by the State Board of Education.

  • Must have BCLAD/Bilingual Certificate of Competence authorization.

  • Must be proficient in Spanish in order to provide Spanish language academic instruction.

  • Must have an understanding of the principles of dual language immersion instruction.

  • Must be able to work effectively with administrators, staff, parents, and community.

Essential Functions:

  • Instructs students using strategies conducive to dual language immersion including: sheltered instruction, focused cooperative learning, and explicit language arts instruction in English and Spanish

  • Creates and implements theme and project-based lessons that integrate language arts instruction with other content areas

  • Researches and develops resources and teachers in cross-cultural settings.

  • Analyzes student data in English and in Spanish for the purposes of informing instruction and program implementation

  • Works collaboratively/team-teaches and accepts coaching in the classroom.

  • Works collaboratively with school site and district staff to develop and implement the dual language immersion program.

  • Provides learning experiences in language arts, social studies, pre-reading, arithmetic, Science, art, physical education, and music to students utilizing the course of study prescribed by the District approved curriculum.

  • Instructs students in citizenship, positive cross-cultural values, basic communication skills, and other general elements of the course of study specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.

  • Develops and uses instructional materials in English and Spanish suitable for verbal or visual instruction of students with wide ranges of mental, physical, and emotional maturities.

  • Provides individual and group instruction designed to meet individual needs and help students to make a satisfactory transition to school.

  • Provides individual and group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of pupils with varying intellectual abilities, and to accommodate a variety of instructional activities being carried on simultaneously.

  • Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior required to achieve effective participation in all activities without interfering with the natural informal atmosphere of a classroom setting.

  • Evaluates academic and social growth of students and keeps appropriate records

  • Communicates with parents through a variety of means, and holds parent conferences to discuss the individual pupil's progress.

  • Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members to ensure students have access to the appropriate kinds of social interactions, experiences, and environments that normally support healthy development.

  • Creates an effective environment for dual language learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and interest centers in English and Spanish.

  • Maintains professional competence through participation in in-service educational activities provided by the District and/or self-selected professional growth activities.

  • Participates cooperatively with the appropriate administrator to develop the methods by which he/she will be evaluated in conformance with District guidelines.

  • Cooperates in school-wide supervision of students during out-of-classroom activities.

  • Performs basic attendance accounting required.

  • Maintains grading system with substantiated grades for students.

  • Updates required records for assigned students.

  • Participates in faculty and/or District committees and the sponsorship of student activities.

  • Engages and supports all students in learning through the use of the state board adopted academic content and performance standards including English Learners.

  • Performs other duties as assigned by Superintendent or designee.
