Pathology Specimen Processor Job Duties Receives, process and transport specimens: including the prioritizing, preparation and storage of various laboratory specimens.

Performs registrations and order entry in all Hospital and send-out client systems.

Must be able to do computer functions and process paperwork. Must be able to prepare, log and properly store samples for courier pick up.

Responds to telephone inquiries: this involves responding to various test results in the laboratory and customer inquiries for sample requirements.

Organizes workflow to assure collections are completed in a timely fashion, assists section staff in organizing department to meet needs of customers.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Duties include but not limited to processing specimens, data entry, accessioning specimens in the Gross room and assistance with patient procedures such as Bone Marrows, Frozen Sections and FNA#s. #The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Experience Desired One year previous experience in a hospital laboratory is necessary; a person with experience will be in training status for up to six months.

Must be completely familiar with the collection of various types of patient specimens for laboratory testing and the associated clerical functions.

Must have a basic knowledge of Medical Terminology, Anatomy, and General Laboratory Procedures. Must be familiar with and follow all safety procedures.

Must know how to operate a copy machine and have knowledge of medical terminology.

Must have pleasing telephone etiquette. Must be able to meet turnaround time requirements.

Requires considerable initiative and judgment in specimen collection techniques and assumes responsibility for coordinating daily workflow.

Must demonstrate high personal standards for job performance. Discretion required in dealing with patient information. Must be capable of making decisions during times of high stress while remaining calm and flexible.#
