Zymergen is hiring an experienced Process Engineer to support our Products Division in conceiving, developing and transferring production processes of Zymergen's fermented novel molecules to commercial scale. As a member of the process development team, the incumbent will conduct DSP development across scales and support transfer of processes between sites.
An ideal candidate for this position will perform the following duties:
Conduct DSP process development at bench and pilot scale, transfer processes to commercial scale, and support initial commercial scale production
Perform downstream processing (DSP) experimentation at lab scale to support commercially-scalable process definition and development
Conduct process and/or equipment testing at CRO/CMO and equipment vendor facilities
Support development of techno-economic analyses for novel molecules, providing process definition, experimental data, and process models
We favor candidates with the following:
BS to PhD in Chemical Engineering or relevant field and 5 years of industry bioprocess experience
Demonstrated experience in developing DSP separation and purification processes for fermentation broth
Demonstrated experience in scaling processes from lab to pilot or plant scale, including performing on-site support
Experience with a range of commercially-applicable unit operations such as cell isolation, extraction, liquid-liquid and liquid-solid separations, distillation, drying, filtration, crystallization, chromatography, etc.
Hands on experience conducting development work at lab and/or pilot scale
Thorough knowledge of chemical engineering principles and familiarity with fermentation and biochemical processes
