Western State Hospital is seeking a professional who has a passion for helping people with behavioral health issues. We need your motivation and organizational skills to work with patients. This is a great promotional opportunity to continue our mission to Transform Lives!

You will provide care to patients with acute psychiatric and physical illnesses and increased high-risk behaviors in a ward under the direction of a Registered Nurse.

Please note, the schedule for this position will be 12-hour day shift, part-time.

Evening and Night shifts include a shift differential in addition to the standard compensation rate.

Pierce County employees are eligible to receive an Orca Card for transportation needs.

Opportunities performed on-site at this work location at least three days a week may be eligible for an additional 5% premium pay in addition to the advertised salary.  In addition, Those hired for this opportunity are entitled to an additional 5 % assignment pay in addition to the advertised salary.

Some of what you'll do

  • Support safety and provide direct nursing care, including but not limited to, monitoring and therapeutically responding to patient's behavior and reporting observations to RN staff

  • Complete documentation such as recording and maintaining records of patient's condition(s) and activity including but not limited to vital signs, eating habits, behaviors, and response to therapeutic interventions

  • Communicate information to the RN2 regarding changes of condition and clinical

information

  • Deliver care per treatment plan

  • Provides mentoring, orientation and training of administrative tasks to newly assigned staff to the ward/living unit

What we're looking for

  • Knowledge of Behavioral Health/Recovery principles

  • Ability to use de-escalation skills 

  • A current, unencumbered Washington State Nursing Assistant Certified (NAC) or Nursing Assistant Registration (NAR)

  • Ability to communicate and comprehend (through oral and written forms of communication)

  • Staff in this position must be competent in basic computer skills, including word processing and navigating a web browser in order to utilize the Electronic Health Record (EHR).

Who should apply

Professional with registration as a Nursing Assistant Registration (NAR) or Nursing Assistant Certification (NAC) in Washington State is required;

AND

A High School Diploma or GED

AND

Three years of experience in a psychiatric or mental health setting.
