Join a highly respected team committed to helping people who have been diagnosed with behavioral health issues at Western State Hospital, a forensic psychiatric hospital located in Lakewood, Washington.

This ward-based clinical pharmacist role contributes to the quality and effective treatment of patients at Western State Hospital. You will enjoy working directly with the treatment team and patients in an inpatient setting, which assists the mission of the Behavioral Health Administration which is to transform lives by supporting sustainable recovery, independence, and wellness.

Pharmacists have on-call duties on a rotating basis in addition to the 40-hour work week.

Some of what you will do

  • Provide clinical pharmacy services and ensure appropriate drug therapy

  • Partner with multidisciplinary treatment teams to monitor patient medications and treatment outcomes. Treatment teams consist of a psychiatrist/ARNP, nurse, psychologist, social worker, and internist

  • Provide comprehensive information to medical staff; provide patient medication counseling at discharge

  • May participate in interdisciplinary committees

  • Complete assigned Pharmacy and Therapeutics activities such as annual formulary review(s) and Drug Use Evaluation(s)

  • May be required to work in a distributive pharmacist role during times of short staffing.

Additional benefits

  • $10,000 annually for Board Certification in an area relevant to patient care from an accredited program by the Board of Pharmacy Specialties (Psychiatric Pharmacy, Infectious Diseases, Pharmacotherapy or Ambulatory Care, or the Commission for Certification in Geriatric Pharmacy, or the National Certification Board for Diabetes Educators)

  • Up to 6 days off for Continuing Education necessary for the maintenance of a license relevant to patient care - reimbursement up to $5,000 for continuing education

  • May qualify for student loan repayment program

  • Duties performed on-site at this work location are currently eligible for an additional 5% premium pay in addition to the advertised salary

  • Pierce County employees are eligible to receive an Orca Card for transportation needs

Who should apply

  • Those with a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm D) degree from an accredited college of pharmacy

  • Professionals with a valid Washington state license to practice pharmacy, or eligibility to obtain licensure within 90 days of employment

  • Board Certification in Psychiatric Pharmacy

Desired

  • Completion of an accredited PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency Program. Note: if residency is nearly completed, please note this in your application.

  • Completion of a PGY-2 Psychiatric Pharmacy Residency Program

  • Hospital Pharmacy experience
